When you ride low and are tucking part or most of a wheel it throws up a big red flag to law enforcement and it gives them more than enough reason to initiate a traffic stop. It is up to the officer to write or not write tickets. Alot of things that play a factor is the trucks overall appearance. Primered and half completed vehicles draw attention and make a cop question the safety of the vehicle. A clean painted vehicle will draw attention still but puts the thought in the officer's mind that this job was done the right way and will usually get the benefit of the doubt on its quality of work. As with everything, presentation has alot to do with how you are perceived by others and it is especially true when it comes to driving customized vehicles. The bottom line is that there are many laws out there in each state that make our trucks illegal to be driven on public streets or at least draw attention to give them reason to pull us over. Most people in the scene do what they can to be excessive about being noticed in their truck or car by riding with the backs down or playing with switches constantly and that type of action makes the boys in blue class us all together as show offs and trouble makers. That is the down side of the scene appealing most to the younger crowd. We can complain non stop about cops harassing us for our vehicles and be pissed off when we get stopped or ticketed but the truth is we are drawing attention to ourselves and asking for trouble and the cops are just doing their jobs. There are definitely more important things for cops to deal with but the fact is that you are breaking the law just like the other people and it is the police departments job to enforce the law. Now some of the officers are extreme and some take things too far just to prove that they can do it, but a majority of them act on you to the way you react to them. Again, presentation is everything so sideways hats, loud music, "riding dirty", tinted lights, etc. all play a part so be prepared if an officer expects the worse from you after presenting the image of a punk ass kid. Be polite and respectful and that goes a long way. It wont always get you out of a ticket but it may save you from getting 10 or having your vehicle impounded. I have gotten pulled over many times in my 15 years of driving and I can honestly say that they had a reason to pull me over everytime whether I agreed with it or not. Attitude and the quality of the vehicle have played a part in the outcome on several occassions for me having been told that unlike the guy he had pulled over earlier in a bagged truck and ticketed, he was not going to ticket me since I was polite and the work on the truck was not a hacked up back yard job like the other guy. So its unfortunate that you got the ticket and you can always take the chance of fighting it but when your truck is at a certain point in modifications you dont have much ground to stand on. So good luck with it and I am done rambling on and showing my age.....damn Im old! LOL
