I'm not up to speed on my Fords but i'm looking at a 2005 Ford Super duty F350 with the 6.0 diesel 4x4. I know the 6.0 diesel had some problems with the turbo but thats all i know. Has anybody heard anything else bad or good? Truck has a 6" lift on it. Thanks for all the help.

Majority of the problems with the 6.0 is with the egr, headgaskets, and also turbo problems. There are things that can be done to make it a great motor but they are very costly. I think alot of the problems are brought on by people pushing them past their limits with programmers and other things.

The 6 liter did have factory problems with the head gaskets.  I've never heard much about the egr or turbos buit then again like RA_Blair said that could come from people not using or pushing them past thier limits with the programmers. Other then that they are powerful engines.

please dont do it.  i had to tell my dad the same thing.  he said the truck looks awesome, and the price is so low.  the next day i got him to buy a cummins.  DONT DO IT.

Stay away from the 6.0! I've got a friend who is a diesel tech who makes his living pulling the cabs off of 6.0's to replace headgasket and install headstuds. You are much better off looking for an older 99-02/03 with a 7.3 in it. Much more dependable motor, even if it has higher miles on it. Watch out for trucks that have chips/tuners and no gauges. You definitely want Boost, EGT, and Tranny Temp (for autos).

i had a 7.3 I bought with 65000 miles in 2008. just sold it at the first of the year with 130000 miles on it. Not ONE problem with the drivetrain. I have heard nothing but bad about the 6.0's

Stay away from the 6.0... Like Gump said, look for a later 99-02 7.3 liter or older. I have a 96 model and have not had any problems what so ever. The 6.0 also have a lot of problems with their injectors. I say if you want a diesel truck go with a Cummins or the 7.3`s...

Just say no to the 6.0

I agree with everyone about staying away from the 6.0! Some people get really defensive when you start bashing that motor so I wanted to see what others said about it first.
