I might not know much about a lot of stuff but I do know a little about hosting shows......if you need anything from me as well I am available anytime for questions myself. I do give major props to the Tex Mex gang and to Taylor on this post.....Do what YOU enjoy at the shows you go to, get the word out, and roll the dice from there.... One last thing as cheesy as this sounds my brother told me this my first year I did Layd Out at the Park from his favorite movie    "if you build it they will come"  Hope this helps for insparation.

We are in the same boat, this year is our 1st annual DROPSICLES side show up here in Alberta Canada. We are really hoping to draw alot of guys from the Northwest to see what the custom truck atmosphere is like up here in Canada. We are only 1 hour north of the montana/Canadian border so a drive from Seattle would take approx. 11 hrs. The show is being held in a school field and is also on the same weekend as a 30+ year running musclecar weekend so there will be a TON of vehicles to see. Extensive is coming up, Truckin and minitruckin magazines, cambered videos. As of right now we have 40 trophies, 5 of which will be custom painted skate decks by BillyBob. If anyone wants more info just check us out at www.dropsicles.com.

A huge factor is who you are and who you know. If our truck club Too Mini Obsessions were to throw a show here in Amarillo, No one would come. Even though we are smack dab in the middle of the world with tons of big cities within 5-8 hours of us. We could offer everything everyone has mentioned in this thread. We are just a small club, and no one wants to kiss our ass for any reason. Sadly, there is a bit a popularity contest that goes with throwing a show, and everyone wants to hang out with the cool kids.

The show grew slowly over the first 3 years but word of mouth of what our show was about, allowed us to take a huge risk and do our first 3 day run in summerville, it turned out to be a huge success because we did what we liked, a river run style show. Our show would not be nearly as big as it is today if we did not get away from the little one day parking lot show that we did for 3 years. About 11-12 years ago i could not tell you who the small club, Assorted Minitures was but i heard about a kick ass show in northern miss. so we started going and look what that turned into, one of the best shows to ever of been thrown! Sucks that it had to go away for a while but i think it was the best thing to do at the time!now don't get me wrong i do see allot of politics, or "popularity contest" that goes into doing a car show but i don't think it necessarily makes or breaks a show, if people like what it is you are doing than then will come and support it! It just so happens people liked what we did, and are willing to support it.  KentSevered Ties TexasTex-Mex staff

The issue we have here is that we don't have enough of a local scene to support a one day show, so we would have to depend on people coming in to make it really kick ass. No one wants to travel the distance for a one day show, so we are in a spot that we nearly have to throw a big 2 show from the start.

Location, atmosphere, venue and multiple days are what matters. No one I know cares about a host club unless they are total jackasses.  I have been putting on a pretty nice nice(at least I think so) single day show for the last three years which has been slowly growing.  I can say that changing to a nice park location and making it multiple days is what it needs to grow in large numbers and draw people from far away.

i disagree on the traveling to one day shows ,my clubs chapter has driving over 20 hours for a one day show  and drove back on sunday straight though ,throw a show and have fun, make the show speak for itself we put on the smallest relaxed show of the 4 just to get everyone togeather to have a good time not throw a big oh my god show , just relax, have fun and if its a solid show, people will come
