---------------------------------------------Originally posted by sickntwistedSo im going to get the lph 400 i decided. but now another question. they have two kinds. the kind they've had forever which i guess in a year will be non compliant or something and they have a new style with a orange cap. they will give me either one for the same money.  but which one of those would be the best to get.   ---------------------------------------------The orange cap is for super high metalic and pearl paint but not ment for clear or sealers, the purple is kinda middle ground but closer to the orange one and the silver cap is the one that should work for just about everything, its just a little more work to make the heavy pearls and metalics look great.  the part number below is for the silver cap in a 1.4 tip. The non compliant thing shouldnt affect people in there garages its an EPA thing for shops. But unless they change something all guns labeled HVLP are legal which the LPH400 is. LPH-400-144LV

Thanks Jason that helps a lot. So in the past ive always just used a normal lph 400 before they came out with the colored cap. I used it for everything- sealer, paint, clear.  and It worked great for me.  do you think i should just go with one of those or a new style with the silver cap. (from what you said the silver cap one would be more for everything).

I would go with the silver one if your going to spray a little of every thing. One thing I forgot is that you can buy the colored air caps seperate and then you get both. But when I bought mine you couldnt get the orange one unless you bought a gun. so you would have to buy a orange cap gun and then buy a silver cap  by its self. Not sure if you can get the orange one by itself now or not havent asked lately.

The orange cap isnt supsose to be used for clear it at atomizes to much and it makes the clear thin which will cause it to break down if your using a clear that you only put two coats on. We did a wet mil test with the silver and orange caps with clear and it was a big differance. It does spray sealer realy nice but not what it was ment for. I have never used the purple cap so I cant tell you how it sprays. But it was designed to spray base better then the silver cap was and I dont think any one was happy with it because thats why the orange extreme basecoat cap came out.  It all comes down to personal preferance and one of the ppg guys at the training center always says do what works for you even if it isnt in the book.
