ok heres my story, im a humble 27 year old father of 3. been thru 2 divorces. this lifestyle is basically what kept me motivated to keep going. i bought my first truck when i was 16 years old (2000 f150) and had it completely built bagged and stock floor bodydropped. it was my greatest accomplishment. i built it with my inheritance from my mothers passing of cancer when i was 8 years old and built it in rememberance of her.
well babies came and so did financial struggle so i did the one thing i swore i would never ever do. i sold my truck. after my second wife up and left me and i got back on my feet i set out to buy another truck. this time it would be in memory of my older sister who was killed in a semi truck collision when she was just 22 years old. so after weeks of searching and being on a slim child support bound budget i found my 1988 ranger in a junkyard on my delivery route. after taking a closer look at the truck i quickly found it was a diamond in the rough. the body was impeccable and completely rust free. the interior was pretty much all in tact other than the driver window had been left down for some time and the doorpanel had split and warped. it only has 67,000 original miles on it and belonged to an old farmer. i found tons of crop seeds under the seat and in the glove box. i took delivery of the truck for 800 dollars and after a 17 dollar manual fuel pump i drove it to town the same night and washed it at the car wash. i had an 88 xlt parts truck out behind my house so i immidiately started changing parts from my base model. first the chrome grille then the tailgate of the same color. anyway my great friend derek who is a great fabricator had me drive it to his shop only a few days after picking the truck up. we started tearing it down and its been a project ever since. my good buddy josh out in portales new mexico had a set of billet smoothies for it he needed to get rid of quick and as in love as i am with the wheels i couldnt pass up the deal so i took out a small loan and me and 2 buddies struck out to shreveport la to meet him halfway and get my new wheels. i have absoloutley full intentions of finishing this truck with or without help or sponsors. it means too much to me. its all i ever wanted in a minitruck. i actually set a goal of trying to build a feature worthy truck for less than 7 grand. i have the truck as you see it now with a full frame and custom front clip and all of the air management, bags, custom built 4 link, wheels, everything i have about 2500 in it as it sits.
the plans are:
exterior: to paint the truck solid white with a teal 2 tone 12 inch old school stripe down the center. i only want to shave the stake pocket holes and the antenna and nothing more. the stock taillights will be replaced with new units, and the tailgate and door handles will be replaced with new chrome ones. the fender emblems will be replaced with metal 60s chrome fullsize ranger emblems.
interior: i have a 49 ford dash thats going in it as well. it will also be painted white with teal accents, the stock bench seat will be re wrapped in white vinyl with teal piping, same goes for the door panels. the glass will all be polished to a brand new crystal clear. i want an old 50s steering wheel to go in it as well. i want it to look like you stepped back in time when you get inside of it.
suspension: i have a new york 210 edc and a 12 gallon tank, all of the air management will be under the raised stock bedfloor. i have a custom built superlift style triangulated 4 link. i have 4 airlift dominator 2600s goin on all 4 corners. and 1/2" shocker valves. i want the complete frame and rear axle painted teal and the link bars and control arms painted white.
here are pics from the junkyard to its present state. me and my friends work on it whenever i can find the extra fundage and time. thanks for taking the time to read and look at my project. enjoy.
