Alright so i got my welder up and running today. everyother truck i've built i've ended up borrowing someone elses welder. The last welder i borrowed was my buddy nates harbor freight 151 mig. i was happy with how well it did when we used gas with it. i've never been a fan of fluxcore.

First i decided to clear everything off the frame like wiring and brake lines. i noticed the rear plug for the taillights was a mess so i'm going to cut it off and redo it with weather pack plugs. i'll post pics once i have it repaired.

From there i decided to get the link bars all bolted up so that i could tack on the new axle pads. i tighened them up so that they were still a little lose so that i could set the pinion angle.

Once i had those tacked we took the bars off so that i could fully weld it up. we also cut the old axle pads off and grinded it all down.

Once that was done we bolted the bars back on witch now fit better beacuse the old axle pads were gone. the old ones made the ubolts bow out and it wasn't straight. we cleaned up the notch and slid it over the frame.

we also placed the panhard bar on there to make sure everything was going to line up where we wanted it. then i tacked the notches into place.

After i welded it up as much as i could we cut the frame out.

we didn't like how open the notch was after it was cut out so we took some extra flat plate i had laying around and cut it to the shape we needed to fill the open area. i thought the kit should have come with that stuff but it didn't. oh well no big deal.

Once we had all the pieces cut out we tacked them in place.

That's as far as we got for today. for any people just starting out the only tools i've used is my harbor freight welder, my 4 1/2 inch grinder with cut off wheels and some basic hand tools. just take your time and clean stuff up. you'll find you will love it that much more once its done. and to everyone else thanks for taking the time to check it out. i love getting feed back from others. i tend to second guess my self alot because i want it to be perfect but yet every truck i do i learn something new every time. i'll try to keep the updates coming. Later.

So it's been a little bit since i posted a update. this last week i had finals with school and all that so that was my main focus. now that it's over its back to work on the truck. So first off i got the rest of the notch all welded up and sprayed it with some paint.

Also got the link bars put on and bolted up.

You can also notice that i was off on my calculations with the axle pads. the rearend was pointing down.

So i ended up going down to the local offroad shop and they had some 4 degree shims. that straighened it right out.

So then it was onto the rear. i never liked the stock cross members on the rear of the frame. they normally take up way too much space that i could use for the air tank and all the equipment.

So i got a piece of 2x4 box that fits in the frame rails. Then i cut off the rivets for the first small crossmember.

Then i slid the new crossmember in and welded it up as much as i could.

Then out came the old crossmember.

So once that was done i went back to the rearend and made sure to get it centered up and got the panhard bar all welded up. the bag plates were just bolted on so i could get an idea of where they were going to go.

Then once it was all hooked up i moved the axle up and down to see if i had clearance and saw that it was hitting the gas tank crossmember. so that's going to have to be notched out.

That's where i stopped for the night. i also went to the local parker store we have here and picked up some air line and a few fittings so i can get the bags installed. i'll try to post up more pics later.

updates????

So i know it's been a little while since i posted an update. the truck was put on the back burner for a little bit and then had little things holding me up. here's what i've got

got the upper plates bolted in and lower cups welded in.

Front end torn apart and bump stops cut off.

here is the rear set up as of right now. i found out that where i have the air tank isn't going to work because it hits the ground. i think if i move it up just a little bit i'll be ok. also still have to put on the rear bag mounts it's going to be off the bar i just didn't want to do it until i can sit it down.

I know the front doesn't quite lay out. we are going to have to order some spindals or he just may save his cash and buy the porter built set up. that's up to him. i know the exaust is going to have to be tucked up father too.

That's it for now. i plan on working on it today and get some more stuff knocked out. it's about time i get this thing finished enuff that he can drive it.
