i would go base clear cause its a lot easier to get out the bugs and dirt that fall in it while you spray and also if your using a metallic single stage paint if you run it you will still see the run after you color sand and buff it out cause the metallics will settle into the run and sometimes become darker and like mentioned above you can spend too much time prepping you can put 2000 bux worth of paint on a shitty prep job and its gonna look like crap or you can spend a great bit of time on the prep work and use the cheapest paint available and turn out a nice looking job

Just throwin this out there. But I assume you have maco out there. They have like a $399 paint deal or something, probably more for your big ol beast. But I've heard if you do the prep work yourself, which is were most of how your job will look when your done, they do a pretty good job of spraying. That is probably all that guy does there is spray paint all day long. And if you figure in buying a paint gun and paint it might be cheaper to have them spray it.

Just throwin it out there and it is only what I've heard never any experience.

what husk said would be worth a shot. just prep the crap outta that baby before to take it up there and let them shoot it. you will spent more than 400 bucks getting all the stuff you need to paint it . hell good tape is like 7 bucks a roll and dually's need alot of tape.

Maybe you can prep it out Campy, then haul it to Texas and lilj will do it for free for you.

Oooh...I like that idea. I can get Door to do the body work, and J to spray it for me.

Now Husk doesn't have a bad idea, but.... I've never dealt with Macco first hand, but I have seen alot of there work from numerous Macco shops, and if that's the route you decide to take, consider a few things that I've noticed over the years, Lil J is right, you're going to pay more for the paint job than what they advertise, I can't think of a time that anyone I've talked with came out with the same price they advertise, even if they only strictly had paint work done. Completely detrim your truck, anything you don't want paint on, for the exception of wheels and tires to roll it on and the motor to drive it in, needs to come off. These guys do not detrim and remove anything to paint, that means they just tape off anything in the way, now I'm not knocking that method, but I've seen waaay to many window seals, rubber gaskets, chrome trim, grilles, headlights, etc, etc, that have just been flat out painted over, not just overspray, due to there shitty masking job... And I've also noticed their paint only holds up to fading for only about a year or so... They look at numbers, not quality, their a hit and quit it shop, but not every Macco is the same, they do have their plus side, just make sure that turning out the quality you want first...

I just remember car craft doing an article on it in like the 90's(only $99 then). And it turned out pretty good with them doing all the prep work and having maco spray it.

little trick i learned a while ago on the rubber around the windows : lift it up and jam parachutecord under there so the lip of the rubber is off the metal .
that way its eazier to tape the rubber off and the paint goes past the place the rubber usually sits making it look like you took the window out before spraying
