Nice!

Got all the rest of the interior parts installed. Had a used headliner from a 4x4 so I'll just have to ignore the extra holes for the roof-mount grab handle until the headliner needs to be recovered.

Visors are from an earlier model so the gray is lighter, but they're OK.

And for those that have been wondering about the hood paint, y'all may recall that we junked the previous hood and went with another, stripped to metal; Tim was still having a lot of paint problems. As it turns out the paint we got from a nearby supplier was cut a LOT with reducer so when he would add even less than the suggested amount, the paint would wrinkle badly. We got new paint from a more trusted supplier (Brault's) and the results are much better. Here's the hood in the booth with some fresh clear on it.

Word of advice, if you like your paint cut so damn much it doesn't even need reducer added, get it from Single Source in Houston.

The donor truck came with an aux cooling fan I wanted to install, but to make up the approx. 2.5" height difference in the HD core support, had to fab some spacers - spare sway bar end link sleeves came in handy. Cut them down a little and used longer bolts, now installed just like factory.

Installed new A/C accumulator and put the factory "snuggie" on it. All that's left for working A/C is to pick a compressor and charge it up.

Took the Goodyear 245/70/19.5's off my yard wrecker '98 to get ready to swap them to the HD's wheels.
thread post photo

For grins, threw one on an old bathroom scale...yep, just about 120 lbs!

The '98 is looking pretty pathetic these days, with raggedy stock 16's, and no dually fenders since they went on the '88 stepside to dually conversion project. The 98's days are numbered and I think it knows it.

Poor truck, served you faithfully and this is the thanks it gets?
someotherguy   +1y
Yep! It faithfully laid down on me about once a week in one way or another!

Frame is bent, leaf springs are shot, front end needs a full rebuild...I bought it with the intention of it being a junk hauler, it's done that OK for a while, but the fine ol' solution for it is to be a parts truck. Wrecker unit, spare engine, etc.!

I needed a console but all I've got are extended cab/Suburban style, which don't fit a regular cab due to a completely different floor profile; it sits at an extreme forward tilt. So I chopped it. Started with a nasty, worn, ugly console...
thread post photo

Marked it and cut the sides and rear. Left just barely a lip in the back for the slide drawer to go in, it won't be functional anymore because there's no room to open it in regular cab.
thread post photo

Raised the rear mount bracket and notched the drawer for it and the mounting bolts.

This pic is just a test fit; I'll clean it up and re-paint as necessary, then drill the holes and bolt it in.
thread post photo

Also was a little worried about getting caught by Johnny Law for no mudflaps, so I took a set that came off a medium duty cab & chassis, cut them down about 2" on each side, made some brackets out of scrap angle and bolted 'em up - temporary until the bed is installed.

Man you have gone a long ways truck is looking real good !

Not much of an update, but I took the Goodyear 19.5's down to the tire shop and had them peeled off the 8 lug wheels. My little 2500LD is earning its keep as "shop truck" with about 750 pounds of tires/wheels in the back.
thread post photo

Got those done just in time to load up the next set of 19.5's. The next set are 10 lugs that fit the HD; taking them down to have the tires removed in prep for the Goodyears. In between, I'm having my buddy Luis paint the wheels and clamping rings black; seems like a much better idea than me doing a rattle-can job. Picked up a spare wheel while I was at it, too.

Final pic, HD up on stands with the hubs painted gloss black, in hopes they'll be cured and won't scratch up too badly when I'm ready to mount the wheels again. I'm really liking how the truck is finally taking shape, even though the bed is still a long way off.

Man, I so dig that truck.

Comming along nicely, Holmes.

Thanks...hey, you know, you could always buy/build one. I know it goes against that quote in your sig but we won't tease you too much about it.

I've got a '93 3500HD parts truck here that is kinda stripped but is still a rolling chassis w/cab and utility bed, and I have the 4L80E and controller for it, I was planning on keeping it as a parts truck so I'd have spare Dana 80 rear end, front suspension parts, etc. but if someone REALLY had to have it...ya know. It's the 84" cab-to-axle so it's got 2' more wheelbase than my truck, might be just right to swap an extended cab on there instead of the regular cab............ (OBS 3500HD's only came in regular cab; there's a few people that have made extended cabs, and some conversions to crew cab also typically rail crew trucks.)
