I did some cleanup on my web space to delete duplicates and shit, then jumped on FSC and saw that almost the first 100 pictures of the 3500HD project thread were broken links. WTF....so I fixed all those, then came over here to fix 'em on DS too. Saw that I left some stuff out, so here's some backdated updates...

02-04-2010 Haven't had any real updates to the truck, just been using it around the shop as intended! Figured I'd post a few random pics of it earning its keep. But first, the old green crew cab in its current state, just about stripped to nothing and looking really sad. Next up, using the HD to pull the crew cab in for some final strip-down to sell off parts; "out with the old and in with the new." Using the HD to shove scrap trucks up onto the trailer before the final parts are yanked off them so they can be hauled down to the crusher.

An extended cab hard-hit passenger side, almost nothing good left, extended cab holding the trailer in place while I shove the junk up on it using the HD, worked great

I did a few more like that on the trailer but got tired of jacking with it...went balls-out and took probably 30 more trucks down to the scrapyard on the hook of the wrecker.

......

03-13-2010 Closed up my shop...scrapped out all the remaining parts trucks, loaded my '94 C2500LD on the trailer along with my big Snapon box, another one in the bed of the truck with some misc. heavy tools like floor jack, transmission jack, stands, blah blah blah. Hit the road for the 1025 mile trip to Florida, the HD did f'in great and actually got somewhere close to 10 MPG with my foot in it at a steady 70 MPH or so.

i had a simular link problem with photobucket when you delete fotos the others move to fill the gap and all the links change ...... so i rather leave the fotos alone and open a new book after the first is full

OK, been putting this off as long as I could, but the time has come. The 3500HD is no longer mine. Since I closed the shop, I haven't had much use for it, and not sure what is coming next - couldn't justify keeping up the insurance, or to tag it here in FL ($500ish just for that.) So I parked it inside for a while...then my bud Nick bought it. He's the guy that built the installation framework for the wrecker unit and did a bunch of work helping to install the unit onto the truck. Last week I drove it from FL to his place in TX, almost 1300 miles. Knocked out just shy of 990 in the first stretch. Anyway, here it is, first night living at someone else's place besides mine. If y'all recall, Nick already has a '94 3500HD wrecker, so now he has mine to add to it.

So I'm dually-down-but-not-out; I'll have another at some point in the near future. In fact, I'm such a dumbass I have plans on building an HD "just for fun" - I'm picturing the 159.5" wheelbase (like the yellow service truck I've posted a pic or two of) with an extended cab body swapped in (a combo GM never offered), another Vortec 7.4/NV4500 combo, and some kind of simple flatbed or maybe a heavily modded normal bed (another combo GM never offered) - I'm thinking single wheel bed with flares that match the front factory flares. With the chassis cab rear end being 8" narrower I think it would work out great.

sorry to see it gone but understandable if you look at the costs , the only thing i wonder is if you couldnt make a living with the truck by towing stuff off for companies and maibe doing semi long distance hauling (say 3 days out ) moving traveltrailers or sumtin
a guy here in the netherlands makes a good living doing that
i just hope the other guy finishes it and put the pics on here , did you sold him the bed too?

Wrecker biz here is pretty saturated; also you won't make any money doing long distance hauling even if you have a 3 or 4 car hauler. I know a few guys going broke doing that - one of them put over 200K miles on his late model Dodge dually in just a couple years, spent a fortune on a new transmission, and turned a new truck into an old beater practically overnight.

That red hauler bed got scrapped because it was just too rusty and jacked up, would have taken a ton of work to make it what it needed to be. Good thing it was cheap. Nick will be fabbing his own bed for it, or may spring for a brand new wrecker bed, I don't think he has decided yet.

As he makes progress I'll get the pics from him and post them.

At least the truck went to a good home. I know nick, he's a good guy, he'll take care of her.

Hmm, think I posted this on my other project threads wandering around the net but the black 3500HD is mine again! It's gone through some changes, improvements, wear, and abuse...but it's mine again. The HATER HURTER has come home!

Now has a Dynamic 701 wrecker unit on it. Not sure what the hell I'm going to do with this truck but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it back. I guess I'm kind of mental like that.
