new kid in the neighborhood

So here is an update, last night I found an 87 sub. its a driver with a decent interior. My C.C. is a utility/ farm truck so it has plain jane everything, rubber floor mat, vinyl seats, crank up windows, etc. This sub is loaded and in decent shape. I was lookin for it for the motor for a different project ( it only has 98,xxx miles) and the interior is just bonus for me. Its also got a good windshield, mine is cracked. Best part of the whole thing is I think I can score it for probably 800 or so......I think I'm going to buy it and part it out. It even has the desireable front clip/ grill and the bumpers are nice, but the body is crusty. I think its gotta be worth the buy.

Well bought the burb yesterday.....$750 good score, now I will have the burb front end and interior as well as a windshield. That is all freebies for me cause I bought it for the engine/ trans for my father in laws next project. That works out for me. I will have to decide what to do with the rest once I get my parts out of it. On another note Lophat I haven't heard out of you bro whats goin on?

I also have a general question; how are the bags attatched on the cupped lower control arms? I've looked at a bunch and it doesn't look like they are bolted to any, is the bag just loose in the cup? I have been thinkin about building my spare set of arms since I have the stuff to do it but that question has been in the back of my mind. Just thinkin out loud.

So here is an update: got the right rear fender off that I bought and had 2 cracks in it so Im gonna fix them and rattle can it for now till I get it all built, then I will figure out paint for the whole truck. Also a hot rod frame I am building for a customer, and a gas pump door that I custom painted for myself. Just some eye candy.

Ya the cup floats in the lca, after it's bolted to the bag its not going anywhere. If you use that method on a stock front setup the front won't lay out. Because you don't utilize the upper spring pocket area, the bag holds the truck up at full deflation.

Now modifying your lower control arms gives you that three or four inches you'll need for it to lay. Cut it out to support the bag, giving you plenty of room around it. Then weld and brace the hell out of it.

No as of yesterday afternoon they had not shown up yet. I'm guessing today dunno. My plan is to cup the lowers 2" then Z it probably 3" I'm also chopping 2.75" off bottom of the frame, just at the bottom of the body mounts on the frame. I'm hoping the frame will hang just a lil below the rockers (1/2" or so) I don't care for the rockers to drag on the pavement. Then bridge it and monster notch with the bags above the axle with a wishbone set up. I just knew if you bolted the bags to the LCA after it was cupped you could potentially grind off the bolts so I was unsure what standard practice was. I assumed they just floated in the lower cup but didn't know.

I have the brown fender from my last post repaired and painted, now its installed. I might add that job of changing/ removing those fenders SUCKS! My old 79 dually had access holes......no such luck on the 91, or the donor truck the fender came off of. Any ways here are some pics for the photo junkies, also I still have the remaining portion of the busted up fender if anyone needs it for sectioning a fender for 22" wheel clearance. If not i'm gonna pitch it soon. Also the trim pieces off the brown fender are repairable if anyone needs those, they are from the passengers side, I have the front and rear.
