Well, he finally did it... my brother finally gave me his '86 B2000.

He had received it in payment several years ago for some rent owed. He decided then and there it would make an ideal work truck. He had someone give it a tune-up, he had the brakes done, he had some body work done, he painted the truck flat black over the original gold and he removed the box and asked a welder he knew to install a custom metal framework on the back and over the cab to enable him to carry long pieces of lumber or work materials... and then never finished the job...

The truck sat, forlorn, in his yard, for at least 3 years. I had been asking him lately what he intended on doing with the truck and did he expect to finish the project one day... and let him know that I was looking for an automotive project and would be glad to take the truck off his hands.

Well, 40$ and a tow job later... the truck was in my yard. I cleaned it out, changed the plugs, the battery, the air & fuel filters, cleaned out the tank, etc... and couldn't get it started. So I ordered a replacement mechanical fuel pump and went about doing other things to the truck in order to get it licensed.

I asked a neighbor who is a fabricator to make me new metal supports to re-install the brake lights. I re-spliced new wires, installed new bulbs and... voilà, all the lights work...

In the meantime, the fuel pump arrived and I'm going to be installing it in a matter of days...

If I get the truck to run then I'll replace the rear shocks and finish the decking. The truck will then be ready for inspection and licensing.

Wish me luck...

P.S. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

kewl, welcome to the site...

what are you planning to do with it? work truck, mini truck, lift?

I'm actually planning to use it as a mini work truck.

I used to own a great big 'ol '90 Ford Aerostar (with a hitch and electronic 4X4) that I was constantly using as a work truck and lending to friends and family when they needed to carry large items or tow a trailer.

I think the B2000, with a 5 spd manual tranny, RWD, a flat bed, a hitch and a specialized carrying rack will be able to do most of what the Aerostar did... only better... and cheaper on gas to boot !!

ahhhh yet another mazda mini trucker, welcome to the site its nice to see people all over the u.s. turning mazdas into eye popping mini trucks. My opinion at any car show ive been to have notice is that a fully finished mazda gets more looks and attention than most mini trucks i know my old school does and im still rockin the primer like its kandy paint lol

anyways welcome to the site man
