did you use your stock drive shaft or use the Mustangs?

So the 98 mustang gt rear end is an inch shorter than stock mazda? Have to pick one up and give it a 6-lug swap. Eskies already on order

no the mustang rears are wide then the fatory mazda rears by about 2", and the driveshaft was built by a custom shop...

Nice...

Here's something I always wondered. After you cut down the axle tube, how to you get the axles to fit? Can they be cut too?
baggedb22   +1y
yea they will shorten them and respline the ends..

At a machine shop? How much?
baggedb22   +1y
im not sure if any machine shop can do it and i no not many places around me had the machine to cut the splines but a buddy of mine owns a off road shop and cuts down axles for jeeps and shit so i got him to do mine cheap!

It is commonly known that the Explorer and Mustang rear axles are 3" longer than the Ranger rear...The Explorer uses leaf springs mounted under the axle tube like the Mazda but the current Mustang uses coil springs with control arms to mount and locate it...I measured the diff on my 86 Ranger and the distance from edge to edge on the spring mount pads is 41.5" and the Mazda differential measures 42.5" on my 89 B2200...

The width of the early Ranger and the Mazda B 2200 are also within .5 or 1 inch and the Ranger diff length lets me mounts 18"s under the body without a problem...

I will be installing that diff under my Mazda right after I clean out the shop and wheel both inside there....
