I'm not to sure but I think you can use a 99 explorer rear end its a 8.8 and has disk brakes and If I'm correct the mazda is a ranger frame witch is the same as the explorer so it should go in pretty easy.

I would say do it!
It'd be awesome!
ther ewill be alot of stuff ya gotta do but I say go for it

Fellow here in Chattanooga put a 350 in a extended cab.Used a fuel cell because stock tank had to go.I would not convert to straight shift.U wont be able to keep rear end on the ground. The tranny in the van is probably a TH400, and if so would be plenty stout enough for ur rig.BJ

I pretty sure he has a pre 94 truck in which case its nothing like the ranger. And I would go with the mustangs rearend there 8.8 to and a inch shorter than stock mazda rearend Not sure about the Explorer rearend it might be wider

I'll have to measure...what year mustang has the 8.8 and is an inch shorter?

I don't think there should be any firewall or trans tunnel mods. My 4.3 and T5 fit with no problem (that's a 350 minus two cylinders, if you didn't know).

As others said, you won't find 2.73 gears for the Mazda rear.

Is the van injected? Injection complicates the swap alot.

^^^^^ Yea i know a 4.3 is a V6 i have a Jimmy, Thanks

And Yea its injected, but it wont be when i put it into the truck.

What he meant was that a 4.3 is pretty much literally a 350 with 2 cylinders missing, same bore/stroke, uses same pistongs, connecting rods, etc. He wasn't just pointing out that it's a v6.

yea...i know...im stating that i have a Jimmy with a 4.3 V6, and its like he said, 2 cylinders less from a 350.

i think any thing from a 1980-04 mustang's with v8 ran 8.8" rears....not so sure about before 1988 though....
