sounds like it might be a u joint or hanger bearing to me, but still might be a wheel bearing

^^lol! "holy smokes batman, is that light in the sky for us?"

presh the vote of confidence hex, but as the old saying goes
jack of all, master of none!

sorry i've been out of pocket for a while.....with the new job it is kinda hard to keep up with everything on the scene

i hate that this has been such a pain for ya, and good advise from everyone that has pitched in to help.....

it has been soo long since i pulled the shafts out of my stock axle, i can't remember all of the exact part placement, so here goes with out being there, the driveshaft spins as long as the tires are rotating. i'd say the noise has to be something with the brakes draggin, or in the chunk, or a bearing dragging.....since they put the bearings on backwards, and forgot the crushwashers, with the axle in or out too far, it was binding, not allowing the axle to turn freely, which could have damaged something in the chunk, and or causing the drum to drag......when they alton's rebuilt it the, did they have it all the way apart with the chunk out, or just the shafts?

my suggestion would be if the axle is turning smoothly, and there isn't any poping or binding in the drive line, it could be that the brakes are in need of adjustment....drums are a pain in the arse!
as bad as i hate to say it, if that isn't the case, one of these fine gentlemen (or a mazda dealership) can get you a good complete diagram of the rear axle, and brake assembly, tear it back apart, and get all new spacers, bearings, fluids, etc, and rebuild it....it will be a pain, but as rocket says, i hate doing the same job twice....and since this would be the third time, & it isn't cheap to repair, go thru the whole thing from drum to drum to assure you don't have anymore issues.

heck if you were closer i'd let ya have my old axle (less the chunk) & you could use what you needed off of it.......

good luck bro & keep us posted!
