You might try checking all the light bulbs cause i know in some cars if the wrong bulb is being used some where it will cause wierd probllems due to incorect ohm loads in the system

^^^^word^^^^ I thought he had already checked all the bulbs

sounds like you may need a new gauge cluster bro. the green board on the back of the cluster could have gone bad. if you have another one or know someone who does try it out.

I checked the bulbs, but didn't check if they were the right ones.. thinking about it though, I'm pretty sure they were. I changed both taillight bulbs (with the right ones) a couple months ago after getting pulled over 'for having a taillight out' (read: for driving a semi-lowered truck).

I spent hours under the rear of the truck this weekend, didn't find any trailer wiring, but it never hurts to look again. I will. The problem started suddenly, though..

As for the gauge cluster, problem is still there with either of the two I have; the gauge face lights seem to work better with the tach cluster, but the problems don't change.

I'm starting to suspect the problem is in my multi-switch or ignition wiring somehow. I was driving at about 30, slowing down for a right turn, hit the signal right, and the truck died.. still idling down on its own but no power.. as if it were shut off, rolling in gear. I tried compression starting while it was rolling, no luck; turned the key from 'on' where it was, to 'start' and the truck fired right up, pedal feel came back, everything was as normal as before. It had done this once before but I thought I'd just stalled it somehow. This time it definitely happened when I hit the right turn signal.

Note - easy solution to my problem seems to be "quit signaling right."

B-b-b-b -ad ignition switch? When those things start to go they can produce some weird side effects in the lighting system.bj

I'm wondering the same thing.. bad ignition switch might make sense.

-no key in the ignition, ignition 'off' - put the truck in reverse and hit the brakes, and the truck seems to think the ignition is at 'accessory.'

-the whole 'running but seems to be 'off' thing.

looks like I'm going to be playing in the junkyard again. Hazer's, the yard here, charges an arm and a leg for most things, and you have to sign over your firstborn for some stuff. They kind of have the market cornered, since they're the only yard I know where you get to pull your own parts. I still go there more often than I need to, just for fun. :/

That is one problem with these trucks - new parts can be hard to come by. Best part about MBS is if your junk yard sucks, post up yur needs and before you know it you will have access to every junk yard that is near a willing member. Just saw a 91 b2200 in a yard with the key in it. Also had matching door locks. Only problem was the key would pull out with the ignition ON.

I'm not too worried about the mechanical part of the switch, it seems pretty solid still. Problem seems to be in the electronic side of the switch.

I just took apart, cleaned, greased, and reassembled the switch on my bike.. hate to think the same thing was happening on the truck and I hadn't noticed. There's a whole lot more wires on the switch for the truck, too, and some of them do look re-soldered.

started it up tonight, grabbed the wire pigtail coming off the ignition (why bother to put everything back together before the problem is found) and jiggled it a little, sure enough, the truck died, started, died, started, died.. so I may have narrowed part of the problem down. Hope the lighting issues go away with a new used set of ignition switch wires, too.

even if gremlins do add character..
