I've got a 1993 b2200 EFI, and it'll only go about 100km/h (62 miles/h) at 3k rpm (the point i shift at to avoid engine damage), and i was wondering how to get it to go faster.
-First of all, i know the redline is at 6k rpm, but my truck doesn't really like going past 3k rpm, probably the restrictive OEM exhaust (soon to be changed), but can you go higher in the rpm range withou damage?
-Secondly, i know you could swap the stock 3.9:1 differential for a 3.74:1 B2600 manual diff, but i'd only pick up anout 5km/h
-Lastly, i know you can put tires with a bigger diameter on the truck, but what size can you go to without risking rubbing the tires or having the tire hang out past the body work?
So what is the most effective way to increase top speed?

ahahahahah a...sorry man you purchased one of the most gutless trucks ever they dont go fast!..swap the motor..or spend like a G on headder, carb, and exaust upgrades

Question is a little vague.Do u want more topend speed or r u concerned about the ability to get more rpm's without motor damage? The biggest limiting factor in pure top end speed is the 3.91 rear end.these trucks were meant to haul and not run fast.SWAPPING A 3.74 GEAR FOR THE STOCK 3.91 GEAR might get u an extra 2-3 mph -hardly worth the trouble. For more useable power, get rid of the stock Nikki carb, put on a Weber carb, rework ur exhaust system and do a little cam work.U can get an honest 90-95 mph and improve mileage at the same time (when was the last time u heard that?).My 2200 is modified as discussed above and at 4500 rpm in overdrive (it is an automatic) it is running about 92 -93 mph-plenty fast for an old truck. It will also do a sub 10 second 1/8th mile.bj

by all means, these trucks aren't ment to be fast n furious, but there are a couple things you can do depending on how much $$ you want to spend.

I'd start where bj said, and it will improve the engine, also swap to a manual rocker arm setup from an 86-87 2200 this would keep ya from floating a lifter at higher rpms.....more power in a weak engine will help.

put it on a diet, weight=slow, less weight=faster, be creative, and shed a few pounds off of the trucks chassis & rotating assembly & you'll pick up a 1/10 or so & a couple extra ponies too....

other than those couple things, you can get a couple extra mph by swapping a 5th gear out of a mid 80's rx-7 tranny into the trucks tranny, or just swap the whole tranny (you'll have to change out the bellhousings). a 2600 rear end is probably heavier than the 2200's, and for a couple mph will not be worth the trouble....look into a 85-93 yota rear end, you can get several different gear ratios, 5 lug pattern, and a rear disc conversion. or you could get a 84-85 rx-7 gsl-se rearend, modify it to fit on the truck, this will give you disc brakes, a lsd rear end, but the gear ratio is like 4.07:1, but you should be able to swap out the 3.90's from the truck & put them in the rx's carrier......

as far as horsepower goes, i dyno'd my 2600 and it peaked at about 4500 rpm . i would like to get a little more top speed because my truck drives at about 3 grand on the interstate at around 67mph. i drive my truck long distances a lot and it kills my gas mileage.

nobody wants to put a 4.3 v6 in a mazda...... if you had a rotary or a 302 maybe someone would talk......
