Hate to bring this back up, but like everyone said, it's gonna cost out the butt to make it an efficient pre-runner, but if you still like off-roading, put in a decent sized v6 (4.3) or a v8 and do a solid axle swap, If you got really ambitious, you could even swap in a complete Toyota drivetrain, (1985-1994 for the motor), and 1979-1985 for the tranny, solid axles, and t-case. If you're handy with a welder, even a simple SAS up front and a matching axle swapped in the rear, you could pull it off. The possibilities are endless.

i think i may be into "pre runners" more so than alot of yal... i drive one haha.

but heres an option
go with a solid front axle and make it 4x4

theres some pictures in there of solid axle toyota trucks built, and raced.

are the mazda trucks similar to any other trucks? i know the newer ones are similar to rangers, but what about the older ones

and you also dont need a power house for a motor, if your motor runs good and is reliable, just re-gear the truck for whatever size tire you have.

This thread is pretty old, but I wondered if any of you had any luck with your prerunner ideas.
Also, is it possible to make balljoint spacers? Or better to just buy them? (If they can be found) I am having very little luck finding any suspension mods for a 2wd mazda
