Well lastnight was our first shift, and the new guys did an incredible job. The several guys I was training were excellent and I had them all working on their own and understanding the basics of everything before first break. I set a goal for our department to have 20 panels picked & on the line before the night was out. We were so far ahead of the fabrication tables and the rest of the plant that we actually ran out of carts to put on the line,so we had to slow down and 20 was all we could do. Even the fab tables and everyone did an excellent job,and the numbers we put out lastnight were twice as good as the original sihft put out in it's first 2 weeks,so I can't wait to hear what management has to say about us this afternoon.

The guys I was training also told me I did an excellent job explaining and showing them everything because they weren't too clear during the orientation but said the way I explained things and showed examples helped out way more than sitting in a classroom all day being told how to do it.

thats great news to hear. i would be the same way if given the chance. i absolutely hate goin in to a new job and the manager sayin this is what you do now do it. and then bitch when your doing it wrong because he didnt show you shit about the job. seems that you will do well in a supervisors position

When I do something and have to teach someone,I like to do it the same way I'd like to have it shown to me. I'm a visual learner. I can take instructions in explicit detail and still screw something up,but if you show me,I will do it well. With these guys,I lead by example, where I explain the task as I'm doing it step by step.

We had our company BBQ yesterday and the VP who hired me asked me how everything was going on the afternoon shift and told me he was really impressed with our numbers and told me I was doing a good job and congratulated me....so I'm obviously doing something right. This job is the break I've been looking for over the past couple years.

see,I also don't get upset when the guys make mistakes...because we're only human and everyone makes mistakes. I told the guys "ask questions, that's what I'm here for. if you're not clear about ANYTHING,just ask,I'm here to help you guys, not be the guy cracking the whip."

All in all,the company i work for is really laid back, all my superiors are a great bunch of guys both at and away from work,so I think we have a successful future ahead of us all.

sure sure you don't get upset because you have some bacon at home to take out all you stress on. but sounds like you will have a great team and the monies should be piling up so we can air the KERMIT or the BLACKNIGHT.
