That was my original plan, but one of the major flaws that I noticed right away was that it was tail heavy. Then I got an offer to get a long bed, so I took that offer up. The frame is going to be cut just the same as this one was originally, with the bed mounts in place and everything. When I finally get the donor bed/frame I am going to weld this piece onto the frame. I know that the spacing is right, so all that I will need to do is strip the frame, weld, plate, and paint.
For the suspension, I am thinking that I will keep the same shock mounts on the frame, but I am going to be using the Pup shocks instead of stock Mazda shocks. What I will be doing is spreading the leaf spring mounts further from the center equally on both sides to keep the axle in the same relative position, but to effectively 'lower' it. To make it usable as a trailer I will be adding a leaf or two to it to stiffen it up some. I want the trailer to be able to hold a good amount of weight but not to travel up and down too much. At a future date I will be bagging the trailer, at some point after I bag redemption.
When all is said and done, I want the weak point in the capacity to be the vehicle pulling the trailer, not the trailer itself. The receiver that I welded onto the frame is for the larger tow ball, and I have access to a F250 diesel My goal is to be able to load about 2 tons into the trailer. Not that I would be able to pull it with Redemption, but I'd like to be able to haul this much if I ever needed to.
