Not quite today, but on Sunday I degreased the valve cover, which had got very nasty from an oil leak the previous owner ignored for a long time, and cleaned up the general top of the engine area. It looks a lot better - didn't know the valve cover was that nice silver color.....

Now waiting to see where the leak is after a few drives, I am suspecting a perished gasket is the culprit.

ummmm... day dreamed about paint schemes then looked at more parts for bags and tryed to rack my brain around the timeless question "will these wheels tuck and how tiny of rubber am i gonna need" then messed w. the weber and played with the timing... runs nice and smooth now, just has no balls... not even when the secondarys open up, also notice its not on high idle when the choke is on... ? or does that high idle go away when weber is installed?

You gotta set the choke before you start it, then when it starts it'll be on the choke step up and when it warms up a little you can drop down to base idle by tappin the pedal. If you're already doin this then forget I mentioned it, if not then hope it helps

to IDminitrucker. That looks incredible. Today I figured out that I forsure was an idiot and warper the head. SO I did some research and found a new engine tranny computer carb all of it with half the kms for dirrrrrt cheap. Going to pick it up next week. As for work today though does lining up the box and tailgate count? Rewiring the lights so that the brake lights work and the license plate light.

moved the truck yesterday, had to use my car to pull it as the brakes seized up. It is now sitting behind my shop instead of next to it. It'll be easier to setup the paint from there than where it was anyways.

also ordered a D16y8 head gasket for my civic, and a VTEC plug. Getting ready to use my tax returns to do my mini-me swap and to rebuild the injector pump. Student HOPE credit ROCKS!

also, played with paint themes some. Thought that I would visualize a 2 tone black/green. Shot it, I liked it, the GF didn't. She suggested that I darken the green paint some, so I did. SHE WAS RIGHT!

Here are pics from today's session:

Here is the old green that I was going for originally:

And darkened:

It's even darker now, rain set in so I had to stop. Don't worry about the bed, it's going to either be scrapped, or sanded down and repairs finalized, primed properly, and repainted.

Can anyone guess what I am going to try to do here???

It'll be a bit more fab work to get the whole idea, but I am thinking of an old school fuel filler which is up high next to the door almost (it'll be recessed with a fuel door, almost stock but not quite) and the diesel smoke stack along the back window, with the bed sticking out.

I'm toying with the idea of using the extended cab short bed on a short cab frame with a custom panel made to house the stack and the fuel filler. This will also make the truck look more like a longer bed, and not require a hole in the floor board for the stack. I gotta see how I will need to reposition the mounts (don't forget I have a spare set) and if I like how it will look. Thoughts?

I added two new small lights to the dash, one for the ash tray and one for the cigar lighter. Eventually I will replace all the dash lights.

I also took apart the middle part of the dash to clean and reseal the air flow parts and tested a couple dash dimmer switches.

I began to polish some of my chrome bits too - "new" door handles, and center caps. Amazing how that "blue magic" chrome and metal polish works!! I think it would work even better using an electric tool and not just elbow grease.

I pulled the heater core housing apart cleaned it and put new foam on it and I painted my dash. It's lighter up close

Looks good Newb.. I'm curious to see the whole interior.

Did you prepare the dash before painting, beyond washing it? I'm waiting for some B pillar covers to arrive that I'll need to paint.

Emjay, love the color!! I agree with the girl friend!! (that doesn't happen much on my end with Mrs. Dan:) )
