First of all i want to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone on the Bscene... ok i recently blew the head gasket and ive got everything tore apart and the head off the block my #3 cylinder has oil on top the piston and the oil was nasty looking like.. But the ? i have is when i flipped the head over valves were closed shut but 3 were slightly open maybe a 1/16 -1/8" is this normal or am i goin to have to replace something else beside the head gasket and get the head checked for cracks and/or warped.. and i cant really see where the gasket blew to get coolant in the oil. also on the top of the block theyre are quit a few passage ways that were clogged/blocked or almost blocked any idea what thats from thanks in advance

The cam determines if/when the valves open, so if your cam is still in the head, you have to look at the lobes to see which valves should be open.
I'm pretty sure there is no possible position for the cam to be in where all the valves would be completely closed at the same time.

On the other hand, if the cam is out, all the valves should be closed.
If they aren't, you need to pull the ones that are open, and check the stems for carbon build-up, or straightness.

The oil in pistons could have a numerous different causes... Blown headgasket between oil port and combustion chamber is a probable cause... Check the valve seals, check for any type of cracked sleeves or oil in exhaust, which can indicate piston ring wear... Check for warpage at the head and block.... Good luck

well im takin the complete head to a place around here to check and see if anything is wrong as far as oil in exhaust there is none that cylinder had good compression before i tore it apart im sure it was just the head gasket around the oil passage but as far as coolant in oil im lost

When you drained the oil, was there wendies frosty colored oil?... White froth in oil?... Did you lose coolant on your first signs of poor running conditions?... Next time try to do a cylinder leak down test, and it will give you a general range of where the damage happened... IE: bubbles in radiator, noise from valve cover, noise from exhaust or intake maniold..... But the head shop should give you a solid answer...

the only thing that gave me signs was white smoke using coolant and when i pulled the dipstick out it looked creamy colored and the top of the valve cover on the inside was caked with that same creamy colored gunk i can send u a pic if u want to check it out

What you are describing seems to fit the bill correcly... Check for warpage on the deck of block... Cracked sleeves... Look for any cuts or trear on timing cover.... If all else checks out.. Slap on a new headgasket... And start her up

i had my head cleaned and resurfaced all check out good guy said it was slightly warped but he got her back straight i just dk y the passages on the deck of the block were clogged.. looks like it was part of the head gasket kinda hard material im gonna try and post a pic
