Checkin back in again! Been lurking around, keeping tabs with everyone's projects. My local wrecker keeps getting in really nice B2200s and I'm always so tempted to buy one and fix it up. My heart still lies with these trucks. They currently have 4 very nice, clean examples in the yard, and I think 2 or 3 of them still run and drive and the other has no motor but a really clean shell.
Anyways, not long after my last post in this thread....actually, about 2 weeks later....I sold that Accord for $2500. I was laid off from my job mid-November and resorted to selling the car to make some quick money.
The guy that bought it lives just a few blocks from me. 3 weeks after buying it, he wrecked it. I told him to bring it back to me and I'd fix it up.
Here's what he did to it.
A few hours later, a couple new parts and some cash in my hand, I had it looking like this. He didn't want to spend much money, so I had to re-use as much of the existing parts as I could.
My replacement for that car was what I had always wanted in an Accord.....a white 5 speed coupe. I found this beauty locally. 1 owner, only 172 000km. The older guy was asking $1650 for it and I bargained him to $1400 on it.
This car is stupid clean for a 1990. It's not perfect, but it has got to be one of the cleanest original examples I've personally seen. The only thing that really put me off was the maroon interior. But after owning Kermit, and swapping it from maroon to grey, I knew an interior swap would be in order for this one too, especially since I already had a set of Accord leather coupe seats in the garage. It's a base model too, so no cruise, no AC, all manual options. No frills. Simplistic and functional. All I ask for. I do miss the sunroof though.
I bought this car on December 9 and took delivery of it around 10pm. It was before 11pm that I had already started to mod it.
Here's my starting platform. 1990 Accord LX (U.S. DX) coupe.
First order of business was to lose the black & white Panda look. There was a white EX-R coupe at the wreckers, so I snagged the colour matched bumpers, mirrors and door handles from it.
I now had a dilemma with my interior. Maroon. I had some tan leather seats from a 1993 Accord SE coupe, and a black dash & carpet from a 1991 SE sedan. This left me with maroon door panels and centre console. I had to resort to painting them.
With a little hard work, over the course of a week and a half, I swapped out and modified the entire interior from dash to rear shelf.
-Black SE dash
-91 Prelude steering wheel
-95 Prelude OEM short shifter assembly
-Door panels painted SEM Landau black, tweed inserts with chrome trim
-Centre console SEM Landau black, 95 Prelude handbrake book, chrome/cd e-brake handle cover, 91 Acura Integra shift boot
-93 Accord SE leather seats front & rear
-Black SE rear shelf
-Tan SE rear speaker pods
-Black 94 Civic window cranks
-Door sills SEM Landau black, with custom installed Honda trunk emblems & chrome strips
-Tan front & rear seatbelts from 93 SE.
-Pioneer headunit
-JL Audio 6.5" door speakers
-JL Audio 6x9 rear speakers
Carpet pulled out. Super clean floor
Dash swap
Current, completed interior
One of a kind interior, modified using all OEM Honda parts. My goal with this car is to have it modified, but look stock.
Under the hood, it's mostly stock. Nice, silent exhaust. No ricer fart can. This is a F22A1 SOHC 16v 125hp engine with a factory 5 speed.
Only mods under the hood include a short ram intake from a Sunfire, some Metalcast purple accents and some Acura Legend hood struts, a little bit of wire tucking and lots of cleaning. I just ordered a strut brace from ebay 2 days ago, so waiting for that to arrive.
On the outside I wanted OEM and subtle. Under the hood, I'm going flashy.
Exterior is all about looking OEM, but with small touches.
-Blackhoused headlights, with stock bulbs. No look-at-me HIDs.
-All amber corner lights
-Acura Legend front lip
-Stock grille colour matched Frost White.
-Bumpers,mirrors and door handles colour matched
-Mk2 VW Jetta flushmount spoiler
-1/8" chrome strip on the side/bumper moldings. (JDM and Euro Accords had moldings like this from the factory, so I DIY'd my own)
-95 Accord 3 piece rear lip
-Subtle chrome exhaust tip finisher
-Tein lowering springs for 2" F 1.7" R drop
-Original JDM 1996 Honda Integra Type R rims. They only made these for 1 year and only on Japanese ITR's.
So that's where I'm at right now.
I'm currently working at a dealership, since mid-December as a detailer and absolutely loving it. Also doing detailing on the side and trying to start up my own little thing.
Always have the itch to get another B....one of these days.
