Surprisingly this truck is more solid than any Mazdas I've had. One small hole around the drain plug in the driver's footwell, and that's it for the cab. The bed floor and wheel wells are completely solid, only some surface rust sprouting. Frame rails are immaculate. I can't beleive it, even with 278k on it.
This 2.4 engine is a real slug. Mazda 2.2's feel like V8s compared to this thing. Even with a cone filter, new plugs and wires, new pcv valve, no cat, 2.25" Midas Turbo muffler and dumped exhaust, fresh rear end and tranny fluids, this thing can barely get out of it's own way.
I've constantly been doing little jobs on it here and there. It's turning into as much of as a project as my car, but I need to make it "mine."
Recent work includes H4 conversion, clear corners and bumper lights, painted lower bumper valance, tach cluster and the exhaust work. Debating to ditch the rear bumper for a smooth look, but I kinda like it still. Also on the fence about new tails. They have some sweet LED tails for these trucks for $99 on ebay, or I could just go with the OEM style red/clears. I just took my tail lights apart today and sprayed the housings with chrome paint, cleaned the bulbs and lenses and resassembled them and polished ans clearcoated the lenses.
Here's a couple shots of the truck from the last few days.
Also converted my car to front AND rear 1995 Prelude seats last week. That was some work to get that done!
Also, for you Alberta guys, or anyone in general, we've recently got a reg cab short box B2600i in at our local wrecker in very good shape. Bubble hood, front bumper with the chrome strip on the top, chrome bezel tails, slider window, decent 4x4 box and fenders. It's red on grey. If anyone might want me to snag some parts from it, I'd be glad to.
