Hey guys, i just picked up another truck for really cheap, the guy i bought it from said he had a kid take it earlier in the day to the shop and brought it back later that evening when he was at work, it sat for about 1 week, and then we got back in touch and i said i wanted it, so i went to go get it, and he said its making a funny noise, i asked him like what, he said lifter in the front above cylinder #1 (i think) so i started it, it wasnt that bad....you can tell its a lifter tapping the valve cover, so i took it for a ride, nice and slow i went, after the truck warmed up, it went away completely, sounded like a brand new truck, so i still got it. no biggy, i start it later that day, no noises....let it sit for 3 days, Lifter tapping on the valve cover again...and as the truck starts to warm up the noise dampers and almost goes away, i just shut it off, im not really worried about it, but what could be causing this? it still runs like a champ, could use a tune up, but other then that its pretty damn good, and the previous owner said it never made a noise, just recently replaced the Fuel pump...but ever since that kid took it to the shop, "or so he said" its made that noise afterwards, anything i could do to resolve this issue? All help is muchly appreicated, Thanks guys!

Oil Change?

Hey man, I have a '93 B2600i that has a similiar problem. I posted it, and was advised that the hyd. lifter was clogged or getting worn out. They advised me to use some seafoam in the crank case, I am gonna do that this weekend. If that doesn't work I might have to replace the lifter. Mine starts making the noise if it sits more than 24 hrs. Then it takes about 5-10 min for it to go away. By the time I get to work the noise is gone. Runs like a champ, though. I hope this sheds some light on it for you.......L8RS!

WHAT YEAR IS THE TRUCK?
IF IT HAS THE B2000 HEAD ON IT, IT WILL HAVE MANUAL LIFTERS
WHICH WILL REQUIRE THEM TO BE ADJUSTED TO GET RID OF THE
TICKING.
IF ITS A B2200 HEAD, IT HAS THE HYDRAULIC ONES, & THEY TEND TO STICK UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMS UP, AFTER THAT THE NOISE WILL GO AWAY. TO REMEDY THIS YOU CAN TRY THE SEAFOAM & AN OIL CHANGE,
OR IF THAT DOESNT' HELP, YOU'LL HAVE TO PULL THE LIFTERS & CLEAN THEM UP & GET THEM UNSTUCK & PUT THEM BACK IN OR REPLACE THEM ALLTOGETHER.

Its a 89 B2200...im not sure if its Hydrolic or Manual, im guessing Hydrolic though, could be wrong. Can i remove the valve cover to take a look and then put it back on without any issues, or am i going to need a gasket of some sort...

And originalmazdawg, This one does the same too, the lifter ticks until it warms up and then its gone...im thinking maybe somethings just needs to be cleaned, or changed (oil change, or lifter cleaned) something could stop it from have oil up there...

if its all stock then you have the Hydrolic try the seafoam and oil change i know my 92 B2200 after i got it running did not make that noise but now with it getting close to the oil change its starting

quick try would be to run a synthetic blend oil 1 quick 500mile cycle to see if it'll unclog the lifters

Synthetic blend huh? I wouldn't advise it, you MIGHT be wasting ur time. I change my oil every 3 mths. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic with the filter to match (the filter looks nice! lol) And it still happens! I would understand it being considered even remotely normal if it were to go away after warm-up, but mine continues even after 5 minutes of driving, like to the local grocery store or something. If yours goes away right after it warms up, I would agree with the earlier- try seafoam. If not, then you might be stuck opening her up. I believe you would need a valve cover gasket if you remove the valve cover to inspect the lifters. Not to expensive. As for removing them and trying to clean them up........thats sounds like a good idea for me if the seafoam doesn't work.......L8RS!

What exactly is Seafoam? i've never heard of it.
