Anyone have an HO alt.?

Any of you guys have an high output alternator for your truck?

I guarentee that when my sound system goes in, it will probably kill the truck! My trucks lights dim just when I turn the heater on. So its definitely not going to work for my sound system.

Therefore, I need a HO alt. and I was wondering if any of you know of a specific alt. that fits our truck. And also how much it cost.

I know my local auto battery shop can put in an HO alt. But I would like to see if I can do it myself and save the $ and also learn something!

i had mine beefed up to whopping 95 amps @ 1500rpm lol cost me 100$

some of the folks on here have used GM 1-wire alternators. seems like slight modifications are needed for the alt. bracket

another option too is just to get a battery shop to increase the output on your stock alternator. so it bolts right back in.

How much of an upgrade can I get from a GM alt.? I would like to set myself around 200 amps. I'm not sure how much I need but I hear people get this much on average. My 3 amps draw about 160 amps... So I would imagine no 80 amp stock alt. is going to power it!

the system im buying was in a 4.3 and i called advance and they said the alt. was eather 105-115 amp so im gona get at least 105 because he but the system in a 2.2 extreme and it fried it so i godda get a one wire at least 105 so it dont happen to me. damn i cant wait to get this thing in the truck.....-bf

Hey guys, I think I have found an alt. that may be direct fit! At 170 amps for $170. Haha a $1 an amp...


I messaged the guy and he said the voltage regulator is built into the jeeps ecu. Our voltage regulator is built into our alternator...

So my problem is, can I get a voltage regulator to make this alt work with my truck? And also, has anyone tried the jeep alt. on our truck? Looks like it would fit right in with no modifications except maybe the bolt...

stinger makes on for our trucks, it run like 250 buck though, i have one for mine and it puts out like 160amps at idle and about 220 at 2000rpm, just make sure you get a diode to keep all of that current from going to your factory electrical system, thatd be a nice fire

Got a link for it? I called around today to see if the jeep one would work.. Turns out I can't do it because our stock on has a built in voltage regulator...

What do you mean by diode?

the diode is like a check vavle for your elet. system, it keeps the voltage from going over 14.3v to your factory crap and still lets you get all of the amps you need

So your telling me in retrospect, that if I add a diode, I can use any alternator that does'nt have a built in voltage regulator?

So that means any alternator I can find w/o a regulator, will work as long it meets my criteria for a direct fitment...

I've got alot of shopping to do... and researching...haha.
