well, we rigged up a air system to keep the valves up and changed out the valve seals. Some of them were missing the rubber seals, others were just about to fall apart. We are going to adjust the rockers tomarow. then throw the valve cover on and see what it does. we found out that on the second cylinder, the intake valve isnt seated all the way, it leaks a little. we got it to seat a little better but its not all the way. not worth it to me to take the head off just to replace one valve that is barely leaking.

so I wont know until tomarow if the smoke is fixed. hopefully it is cuase I need it to help me move. 2 trucks are better then one.
thanks,
Mike

hey man let me know what happens cause my truck is doing the same exact thing. i went through the same problem you did. had to replace the head gasket then i had to replace the head cause it was cracked then i got it put together and it smokes when you rev it up...please let me know if you resolve the problem.

the trucked still smoked, I sold it to a guy who was going to take it to the carribean or something and rebuild it cuase mazdas and toyotas are expensive down there. fuel is like 4-5 bucks a gallon down there, so any truck that gets good gas miliage and has a bed is expensive.
I picked up a running driving and nice looking 86 b2000 xcab with the money I sold it for.

but, when you rev up your engine, what color is the smoke. if it is a blue, its oil, white is water and black is carbon build up. if its blue your rings are prolly bad. mine must have went bad from how long I had the head off the truck. if it is white smoke, your intake might be cracked, you wont be able to see the crack, but it might be in the water channel of the intake.

good luck,
Mike

My old mazda smoked too, changed the vavle seals and it still smoked. pulled out the pistons and the rings had soo much carbon and sludge built up on it they weren't sealing, SO i slapped in a new set of rings and it was fix'd.
