what if i were to buy a miata turbo manifold?

anyone know how well (if at all) a fe3 would run with a f2t upper intake and computer?

i know a guy that could build/setup/tune a megasquirt system, but dont wanna do it if it would be ok like this

SlammedMini469: I think it would run awfull; since a 8/12v head would flow differently from a 16v head. Dude at is using a 1.6l Miata ECU on his setup and says it works just fine, FWIW.

I can't stress the benifits of a stand-alone ECU over a stock ECU for tuning/tweaking/long-term satisfaction.

ok, i am pretty sure i am getting a mazda soon, and am making plans for the future of it.....

if the stock motor starts giving me a lot of problems, or goes to shit, i will be swapping it out for an FE3 with megasquirt....so oddball, i have a couple questions.....

1. how well does the miata manifold flow?
2. is there enough meat on aftermarket miata headers to let the same thing be done on them?
3. is the truck quick?

SlammedMini469: madlowmazda is the man to ask those questions! I am using stock KIA lower intake manifold with a custom upper welded on and a custon exhaust manifold! If you want to use Megasquirt he also has the feedback on that!

Good Luck!

slammed mini-

Megasquirt is the shiznit as far as I'm concerned. I'm using Ford EDIS igniton, and she really flys.

I own 4 mazda trucks- and it's like night and day getting out of the f2/ fe powered trucks and getting into the fe3 truck- power is incredable. Acceleration is awesome. Plus 6500 redline is nice.

For a turbo manifold- there is some discussion on mx6.com anout the miata manifold on the fe3. I think obx makes a stainless one that some of the members on mx6 have redrilled to fit onto the fe3 and used them- but they say that the quality of the manifold is poor and it doesn't last long. Mild steel would be your best bet- and custom would also be the best bet. Check out JGS precision turbo online- they sell and produce aftermarket manifolds for the miata- or any custom application. This is the route I will take. I already have a 3/8 mild steel exhaust manifold flange made for my fe3- now I just need to get the bends/ pipes from JGS and make me a manifold.

Megasquirt leaves the possiblities open for anything. Tuning is awesome. I have a profile on streetsource as well- there is a link on there to a video of my truck doing hella donuts and getting buck wild. That was back when I ran ITB's on it. my screen name is the same as on here. Good luck man, feel free to ask me any questions- any time.

btw- oddball is right- don't bother with that 1.6 ecu crap- that's a waste of time. Be the time you buy all that shit, hack it all together with massive amounts of wiring everywhere and bullcrap emmisions all over the place- you can just get a MS unit and be done with it- then later on down the road if you want to turbo or throw a rotary in it or an s2000 motor or whatever- you are still ready for it!
