ok, welli just dropped in a new engine, with a weber and pacesetter. My problem is, it will not turn over. i mean the starter tries, and the engine turns like 1/4 inch. but thats it.

i noticed when bolting the engine and tranny together, they were a pain in the ass. could this be my problem? could something be binding?

ahhh, ive had enough of this truck. any ideas would be greatly apprecited. and how could i remedy this without a hoist? loosen the bolts and crank the engine by hand untill they slide together? is there a certain way the engine/tranny slide together?

its a 91 auto...

Is this a new or used engine?

Put the transmission in neutral and engage park brake.

Then try manually rotating the engine at the front crank bolt first and post results back.

what he said, also may want to check your wiring connections @ the starter, battery, & make sure you rehooked all of the grounds...

its a brand new engine. and it wont crank by hand. it did before i installed it, but now i cant turn it.

sounds like you didn't get the tranny properly aligned.....either that or somehow, you got the compression too high & the starter is not strong enough to turn it over.....pull the plugs out & try to hand turn it over again, if still nothing i'd say it's not properly aligned.....

how is it supposed to be aligned?

is there a certain way the engine and tranny bolt up? i mean is there like a notch on the tourque converter that fits into a notch on the tranny imput shaft?

I know that i got them to be within about 3/4 of an inch no problem, but bolting them together the rest of the way was a pain in the ASS...

^^^ shouldn't be that hard. i pulled mine out twice and put it back together with no problem. sounds like something is not lining up properly. the torque convertor didn't slide forward when you pulled the old eng out did it? it could be binding up.

i took the converter right out.

i had it bolted to the engine when i put the engine back in.

im thinking im gonna unbolt the tranny , slide them apart a bit, and than take the tourqe converter off, and slide it onto the tranny, than bolt everything up from that little access plate.

there is your problem right there. do what you just said and if you did not bust the tranny pump it should work fine. And when you put the converter back in push in then turn it should seat some more. remember turn it a few times to make sure its down all the way.

Converter should be on the tranny side always.
You busted the converter pump drive. Ahhhhhh.
Sorry.
