what is the converter pump drive?

and how much is it to replace?

the motor drives the converter the converter will spin a pump that will pump tranny fluid through the tranny. I doubt you did not break it but hay stranger things have happened. but most likely you busted the tranny pump. Thats what your gone have to replace which most likely means time to take it to a tranny shop.

ok, so ive been out under the truck. i got the engine ready to lift out again, so i can pull the converter off. is there any way to tell if the pump is fuckered by looking at it? I dont have access to a hoist untill tommorow, so im gonna take it out. but i also noticed a small puddle of tranny fluid under the truck. is this a symptom of a blown pump?

Sorry to be such a pain, but i dont know shit about transmissions. I mean, a 5spd engine swap is easy. i didnt know the converter had to be on the tranny.

anyways, any help is much appreciated...

I would say yes thats a really good signing that it is busted you might have also crushed the converter. or one or the other. point is something is busted or both start calling around for a tranny pump and converter and a shop to look over yours better to be safe than sorry and I would leave the motor and pull the tranny. Dont need a lift for that and that is now whats messed up. So its got to come out anyway

or you could have spilled tranny fluid out the converter when installing it or pulling it apart.
like everyone else is saying - if you did break your pump you'll want to take it to a tranny shop, i don't think autozone will carry that part....

Time to call junkyards.
You should be able to find a used torque converter.

hahaha. too late for just a converter.

I just pulled the whole tranny out. is there any way to tell if that pump is wrecked by looking at the tranny? i mean it only took a couple hours to pull it out. if its fucked its cheaper for me to get a used tranny for like 300, instead of fixing just my pump for 700...

so how can i tell if its fucked? also, the converter itself seems to be ok...

The only way to really tell is to ether A take it to a shop. Or B put it back in (the right way this time) and see if it works. Might work might not, Might work for a few min's might last for years never can tell unless you have a shop look at it. But its free to reinstall it and test it out. Just check and see if there is any cracks in the tranny.

OR - while it's out, see if the shaft spins easily. it shouldn't be too hard to turn. if you have a good size table and a good light you can take it apart for shits and giggles. a non operational tranny would be a good way to learn how it works. an automatic tranny only has like 700 parts, but its not that complicated. everything should fit together nicely, like a puzzle. if you pay attention to the way you took it apart you should be able to put it back together. label bolts, parts, set them out in order of how you took them apart. the torque converter slides directly on the pump shaft if i'm not mistaken.
