i''ll let you know what i get soon. i just got my 90 2.2FI running.

if you want to reset the computer, disconect the negative terminal on the battery & hold the brake for 5 seconds. that should reset the codes. if you have a problem though, it will come back on. take it to a shop & have them read the codes.

I have an 86 b2000 that smokes on start up and I still get 25 mpg. I also Have 210k miles on my truck. its weird how they change miliage wise.

Do not just reset the ECU. Try to pull the error codes and address them properly.
Try here:

If you are getting that very low mileage, your tail pipe should have a lot of black soot.
You should see carbon shooting out the tail pipe when you start the truck.

from my calculations, you're actually getting around 19.3mpg

265km is 164miles : 1mile=1.609344km

32.2L is 8.51gallons : 1 US Gallon=3.7854118liters

164miles divided by 8.51gallons is 19.27 miles/gallon

I tried your equation and came up with 19.5miles per gallon and not 16mpg.

either way, it's still not that great , that has to suck.

There is soot but only when it's revved up and hasn't been driven I think ther'se somthing wrong with the carb. I can make a pile of snow black in under 30 sec by revving it. When I reset the ecu (done months ago) the codes never reappeared but I'll check the conecter fior corrosion because I don't recal seeing the cel on even at startup since connecting it to the other connector. Are those codes in your link for a carbed truck because that's what it is for now.

So from what I'm hearing I should go FI mabey even a 2600i since I'm going to expect it to tow.

Mark yeah you are right I screwed up dut that was 100% highway (filled up 2km before and 5km after the trip) the 16mpg was from an all city driving trip, that's worse than alot of full size trucks!

Gotcha.

That's horrible man.

So let me get this straight. You have a carbed truck right? I think your thread title gave the impression that you have an FI, so everyone is really giving you advice for an FI motor.

If that's the case, then it's going to be as easy as replacing the carb and all vacuum lines. Start fresh and I bet that truck will run great.

The carb is computer controlled, but CEL lights are useless with the carbed motor, since there really isn't a way for you to pull the codes off of it.

I'd start with checking to make sure all vacuum lines are plugged in and are not leaking. Then try a new O2 sensor. Yours may be bad and is giving a false reading, making your truck run rich. Mazda carbs are retarded. The computer that controls the carb is retarded

I'm more of a tuner and therefore know more about fi (my dad is an old muscle car guy and he thinks the carb is stupid too) that's why I wanted to go fi it wouldn't be a big deal, I've done ground up 4 cyl rebuilds/swaps/turboing before so a carb to fi swap shouldn't be a big deal. I would probably be more comfortable with fi but if the carbed engine can get as good mileage as the fi then i might just stick with it. I do expect this thing to tow though either 2 seadoos, a 2200lb jetboat (inclusive of trailer) and possibly my 323 if I decide to make it a track only car. That's why the g6 seems more appealing than the f2 to me.

I was wondering if the mpv g6 motor would be a dropin into the 2200 same as the 2600i's g6 is (with tranny belhousing of course). I want to know if mounts line up as I don't weld and if it all fits fine (don't see why it wouldn't but I like to be safe)

Well if that's the case, then you really shouldn't have much of a problem going FI.

It definately has more potential.

I get 25mpg city and around 27highway on my holley carbed 2.0. It will also tow the 2 jetskiis i posted earlier with no problems.

I don't see a problem pulling the 323 or the boat, you can't go that fast but it'll pull it, but I do see a problem in stopping.

Do you have brake upgrades? Would slotted discs make enough of a difference? I use ebc slotted and dimpled rotors on my 323 and they have like 40% more power (you can actually feel it stopping way faster) but that stuff aint cheap. I had 215/70R14's on it when i got it and they were AWESOME for braking but really hard to steer below 10kph (no power steering).

That's cool about your mileage I wonder how much it would drop in a Canadian winter though.

If I can't get a 2.2 fi setup I'll likley get a 2.6 cause a 4cyl mpv is worth nothing and they are common in jyards

I have no brake upgrades. Stock rotors and OEM replacement pads. It's enough to stop the two jet skiis and small enclosed lawn mower trailer in case of emergency. but nothing 2000lb+
