To add to mazdatweaker's pic.
1. Remove the carburetor and, using a small punch, drive the anti-tamper spring pin out from the bottom. Re-install the carburetor with a new base gasket
2. Install the air cleaner and verify that the idle compensator is closed. Verify that all vacuum hoses are correctly routed.
3. Adjust the idle mixture screw until the air/fuel solenoid duty cycle (dwell) is varying in the preferred range, between 27° to 45°.
4. After adjustment is completed, tap the anti-tamper spring pin back into place.

I may be getting a little too excited before I prove it but a couple days ago the catback portion of my exh fell off (thanks midas) which was mated, poorly, to a new cat and front pipe. Now it's really loud and grumbly but, it has more power (spins tires at 1/2 throttle on damp pavment in 1st and 2nd) and it used the top 1/8th of a tank to go 75 km! Previously it was taking at least 1/4 tank! I'm guessing that my exhaust was plugged up but old cat guts? Well mabey now it needs a header and 2" highflow exh and possibly a bigger carb.
Huh and right after I was out trying out new B4000 4x4's I guess it got jealous and decided to work better. I deffinatly like its handling better than the new trucks.
I havn't had a chance to check the dwell, work has been busy and its too cold at home, but mabey it just needed a new muffler. Does this sound like somthing that would cause this kind of change?

I checked the dwell it was out it was about 50% i set it so it was between 30-35% then a minute later it said 0% when i revved it it came up to 35% but went back down slowly. I could hear clicking from the carb.
The non-exh raised average mileage from 16mpg to 21mpg yay! Thats even with a screwed carb!
