ok so i was able to start the truck today while it was cold and it kept runnin for quite a while but then i noticed the temp. gauge was above normal and was beginning to over heat so i shut it down. I then checked the thermostat and water pump but both are working. If the fuel pump is bad and causing the truck to run lean could this make the engine run hotter then normal enough to see on the temp gauge? Im thinkin the poor running and the over heating have to be related somehow...

sorry to bring back an old topic, but did you ever figure out what the problem was? i have the same exact problem in my 90 fi.

Actually i did, the fuel pump was fine, correct pressure and everything and the overheating was from a wrong temp thermostat in the truck. So once i fixed that i noticed a leak in the windshield on the passenger side that was letting water drip down the side of the truck and right onto the bloody computer. So it turns out the computer was fried so once i replaced that the truck ran beautifully!
