Ok, so my B2200 was of course the one with the major smoking issues before. Well now I have a parts truck to swap heads on. My motor either (we thought) has blown valve seals or piston rings. Well, before we swap the head which would fix the valve seals which we are hoping was the only problem, we decided to do a leak compression test. All of the plugs are coming out with oil on them. All of the cylinders climb on the gauge slowly and after 4 full revolutions, they all max out at about 150 give or take a few pounds. So in other words, they climb slowly but do in fact reach the correct pressure. What does this indicate, everything I have read shows that if they climb slowly that they will not reach their proper pressure.

What can I conclude from this. Also, the spark plug with the least oil climbed faster in the beginning then eventually leveled off at the same as the other cylinders.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zac

off topic: what kind of compression should a b2000 reach? i was guessing 120psi?

I think I read it was supposed to be around 150... I need to find my manual though. Any help for me??? Anyone at all?

173 brand new for the 2.2? i just tested mine yesterday its a 2L and it came out at 165psi. i thought it would read alot lower seing as its so damn slow lol

Ok, I will try a wet compression test. Thanks for all of your help this far.

Ok so this time with the wet compression test the results were as follows.

The engine reached a final pressure of 180psi before maxing out as opposed to the 150 before. The dry test climbed about 90, 110, 130, 150 where it maxed out. It maxed out on the forth revolution.

The wet test went about 120, 140, 160, 180 where it maxed out on about the forth revolution. So in other words it climbed gradually both times however on the wet test it climbed to a higher PSI.

I understood that if it did not climb and just went straight up that it was the piston rings if I was doing the wet compression test and if it was the valves it would more or less not change it with the wet compression test. So now I don't know because it didn't do either. Climbed gradually to a higher PSI.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Zac

if you are pulling the head why not go ahead and re-ring the engine why you have it apart. there isnt very much to these engines so it isnt that hard. and its not that exspensive for some rings
