SO- update to my engine... i started to hear this tapping noise... coming from somewhere in the back of the engine. at first assumed it was lifters, then thought it wasn't. i racked my brain thinking of what it could be. me any my wife and room mate listened to it, and the problem seemed to happen at 15-2000 rpm, not at idle or just above. we determined that i must not have tightened the rod nuts or something. that could be be only problem.
so i took the oil pan off and the girdle thing with the oil pickup tube on it and low and behold... the nuts were all tight. phew i thought.. i did remember to tighten them. looked in the oil pan and it looked like a tube of glitter. oh shit there's something going wrong. metal shavings in the pan. took the rod caps off and # 3 and 4 were fucked! all sorts of grooved. guess i didn't clean them good enough before i put them back together. well i'm paying for it now. going to get a new crank, or have mine machined down and get oversize bearings.
dammit.
so i'm thinking full performance mazda..... if i gotta tear it apart again, i wanna bore it out and get new pistons, cam, valves, maybe a b2000 head, mechanical lifters, balanced rotating assembly and port/polish. dunno yet, it all depends on machine shop cost and parts cost. it is my every-other-day-ly driver after all and it needs to be up and running soon. if you guys know of any cheap parts as mentioned lemme know!!!

damn bro, that sucks! i am at a loss of words cause i know what you are going through and i know how much it sucks!

damn speedster, hate to hear that.....i'd yank the engine back out & take it down, & make sure those metal particles didn't score the cylinder walls.....you can carry the crank to a good shop & they can grind it down & match it to the rods.....you can get some ae/clevite bearings from parts america's website they are pretty good....wiseco (ship them a stock piston, and they will make you some in w/e comp. ratio you want. paeco industries can grind your cam in one of 4 different specs. ferrera makes + 1mm competition valves for the 12v head which will fit in our head. springs, retainers from paeco too, they even got me a set of are head studs, and a copper head gasket.....most of the stock type parts ae/clevite makes and are good dependable parts. if you just get a machine shop to do the machine & balance work, & you put it back together your lookin at somewhere around a grand maybe more.....if they do it all, it could easily cost up to around 3k.....just depends on what all you want done...good luck man, keep us posted!

i called a couple machine shops here locally and they both agreed nobody around here does crank grinding, let alone import stuff(i don't know why there's a difference, but whatever). one place did tell me they go thru a company that will take my stock crank as a core and send a new one(new or reconditioned or whatever) for $88+shipping. i thought that was a good deal, so i'll pull the crank and do that most likely, unless someone on here has one... and can pretty much guarantee it's in good shape. i'm so bummed and really don't wanna pull it out again. the motor mounts were a pain in the ass!!!

i've got one in my 90 b2200 parts truck. but it will be a little while before i get the truck over here and get the engine out of her. maybe a few weeks. the only thing wrong with the engine was a blown head gasket but the guy i got it from sent the head off and i never got the head, so all i have is the block. the crank is yours if you want it, i just need to get it. just pay for shipping.

your generosity is much appreciated, but i don't know if i can wait that long.

dats cool.

dang speedster, you mean to tell me that you live in cali, and no one will grind your crank....there's gotta be a speed / machine shop that has a crank machine....heck all the imports running around, there has got to be a import specalist.....

don't know if i would go with the $88 deal or not, sounds kinda cheap, afterall, you know where your crank has been, the one that you trade for, you don't know where its been.....all's i'm sayin is just be careful....
