Ok, so here's the story. I blew a coolant line on my truck (89' b2600i 4x4, about 250k on it). Blowing it overheated the truck, blew the head gasket, warped the head so bad the cam doesn't even turn right anymore, so I went and got a pulled a head from the junkyard, cleaned it up and everything, and the darned thing was cracked! So now I have 2 bad heads sitting here.

So at this point I have the whole engine pulled and completely dissassembled, I'm working on a custom front bumper, and rewiring everything. So there is pretty much no such thing as going to far, just costing too much.

Now finally, for my question: has anyone successfully swapped a V6 or V8 into their b2600i, and what did it take (bellhousing, tranny, motor mounts, driveline, ECU, exhaust)?

I know everyone says the V6's from the MPV and Aerostar fit the tranny if you get the right bellhousing, but what about the motor mounts? I would just go to the junk yard and rip some engines out, but right after I pulled mine I got t-boned by a semi and I have horrid whiplash, and can't really move a whole ton, so pulling an engine just to look at it doesn't sound appealing right now. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

4g63 will bolt up to the b2600i truck transmission, but intake faces the wrong way. Not sure about distributor

4g63 would be far superior to the crap 2.6 "mitsubishi/mazda" motor that is in there.

If you want to get really crazy, import a bongo van bell housing which allows you to adapt the 2600i trans "aka type 3" trans to an "F" block - so now you can bolt in an FE3, or and f2T, or FE or F2.

4g63 is the engine out of a Mitsubishi Eclipse /Starion/Lancer correct? Those bolt up to the '89 b2600i tranny? That could definitely be a pretty cool swap to do then, cause you wouldn't have to worry about the transfer case and stuff like you would if you switched out the tranny.

The whole intake/exhaust wouldn't make any difference as to which side it was on, though it may take a couple custom exhaust brackets or something. Why would the distributer matter? You could always just mount the coil on the other side too couldn't you?

so are you saying a 4g63 is a direct bolt in? Or is there mounts that make it direct? This is something i would like to do soon. also the 4g63 mounts to the tranny? sorry to jump in your thread but i've been wondering about replacing my engine as well.

4g63 bolts to the tranny- I have no idea about the motor mounts, I would assume they are different, but hell we are minitruckers- we can make new motor mounts right? Not THAT hard.

Intake facing the wrong way is a big deal because the throttle body will point toward the firewall- same problem as the f2t swap. Solution- many companies sell sheet metal intakes for that engine very cheaply- buy one and have a welder flip that TB flange to the other end of the sheet metal intake- or just have the other end bored out for the throttle body and "Cap" off the other end.

I'm pretty sure those cars have a distributor which hangs off he back of the cylinder head- and would be hitting the firewall, just like an f2t, I don't know about this for sure though- or howw much room the is between the back of the head and the firewall?

Ok, so does the 4g63 bolt to the bellhousing, or do I need a new bellhousing too? I'm going to check out an engine this afternoon, so hopefully I can give it a try. But it'd be nice to know if I'm gonna have to find a bellhousing too.

no, a 4g63 will not bolt to a b2600 tranny. The b2600i has the carbed 2.6 engine correct?? If so then only a g54b turbo starion/conquest motor will bolt up to that transmission, not the 2.0 narrow block eclipse motor

im so lost so what will bolt up to the 2600i tranny???

No, the 2600i is fuel inject, thus the "i".

I've heard that the 4g63 from the Eclipse/Talon is basically the same engine as the g54b from the Starion/Conquest... anyone know?
