i worked in a radiator shop for 2 years, you can't expect something to work forever, the radiator expecially, those things get gunked up with slime from years of water running thru them. id suggest either getting a new radiator to see if that solves the problem or find a radiator shop to "ROD OUT" the radiator. that should be around $90 vs the $150-$200 for a brand new radiator. don't buy a used one because you will run into the same if not worse problems with it. also have your engine block flushed out. you will be suprised to see what comes out of it. take the hose off the therm housing and take the housing off, take the therm out, take the bottom hose off, and run water thru the engine while its running for about 5 mins. (make sure that no animals can get to the water you flush thru)

if your guage pegs out past hot when the yellow wire is not connected then the yellow wire is grounding out somewhere

Ok so lets see, I had seen that sensor before and wondered what it was but where is this yellow wire supposed to be going off of it?

The only sensor I can see with a yellow wire is the one on the side of the block. And I am pretty sure this controls the temperature gauge. Now there are two yellow wires with red bands in that area. There is a very short one that I believe is for the sensor and a longer one for the alternator. By length they can both more or less reach each spot. So I tried swapping them and this time the gauge went down to nothing. So now I am wondering, the short wire reads very hot and the long wire reads cold. Which is the right wire? Any other ideas? Could the sensor be shot?

Heres some pics because I like to be able to see things lmao. In the last one you can see the sensor with the short wire connected and the other wire running past it both with the same color insulation.

second pic is the oil sending unit

So then what controls the gauge? And why is the gauge effected when I take the wire off of that?

what does it do when you pull that and does your oil light come on
