messed with it a little more. i got it not to pop so much but here is the deal. it diesels when i shut it off which is a sign of it running to rich, but the header started glowing orange which is a sign of it running to lean. so wtf?

hmmmm....

sounds to me like timming bro...

yeah, i am beginning to think the same. no matter what i do to the carb it just doesn't run right.

useually when it diesels its a timing issue...sounds to me like your problem was timing and carb issuse but also sounds like your getting the carb issue figured out...just remember to set your timing first then Readjust your carb to that

thanks man. i just went outside and adjusted the dizzy and then the carb and everything seems to be better. i am letting it idle for a little while to see what happens. it is still popping through the exhaust but the glowing went away and it is still running so, i will let you know what happens in a few.

sorry man, i forgot to answer your ? it is a weber 32 36 dfav. i had a holley on it but it ran like total $h!t!

i think i just got it fixed though. i will know more in the morning if it breaks down on me on the way to work. haha. i would take it for a test drive but the wife is at work and i have the kids so it will have to wait. but it def. sounds a lot better.

hope you made it to work ok, check out this when you get a chance, good reading & it may help you a little.

you say its a dfav, that is a water choke model, is it hooked up? this might be an issue to look at, but more than likely not the problem....

the header glowing is like you said a lean issue and it wouldn't be loading up with that going on,you said you check'd the timing and it is running better, header isn't glowing, but now it still is popping in the exhaust,

sounds like somehow your still getting unused fuel in the exhaust that is causing the popping. the mixture screw may be set just slightly too rich..either that, or the intake valve is staying open after the combustion and extra fuel is getting pulled into the cyl, and then out with the exhaust gasses then igniting in the exhaust pipe causing the pop....

best I can say is double check the timing, and the mixture screw & hopefully that will fix it....keep us posted

well, it made it just fine and drags like a champ. how does a water choke work? i am going to have to look into that. thanks for the info bro. i just printed it up. i definitely have a timing issue but it isn't in the dizzy. the cam to crank timing is off by like 6 or 8 degrees. i ordered a complete engine gasket set so i can fix everything. i still need to change the valve stems as well.

but i absolutely love my 105 amp 1 wire alternator with my yellow top and the viar 380 dual pack. so much nicer than the old setup.

i will keep you guys posted when i fix the timing issues.
