okay depends on what size rim and tire combo your running. When i did mine I measured from ground to bottom of frame at hiehgt I was running before i started ripping out everything but I would do atleast a 8 to 9 inch step notch.

8 to 9 inch is about average. The notch size will change depending on what overall size tire you are going to run or want later down the road.

well i wanna stay with what i have 205/40/17's escalades thanks everyone for all there help so it would be from the bottom of the frame where i would cut out for the notch to the top inside of the notch(where the axle would hit the frame))would be like 8 or 9 inches???? thanks again everyone im sorry if im a pest but this is basically all i have to go on no1 around my area has any bagged mazdas or other mini trucks bagged for that matter thanks Josh

so when putting in the notch weld in your sides then the top making sure you weld along the top of the frame on the inside of the side of notch before putting the top on and welding it. After you have welding all that in then cut out your center and weld in the bottom cover plate also do not take out the leafs or anything till you are all done getting the notch fully in as it will help keep the frame in the right place and not move on you.

roll the lip in and you mihgt flare the sides just a little bit there is an article from minitruckinweb.com that can help with that.
