shaved doors!!!

I talked to someone on here a while back about shaving my handles and leaving the lock. When you would unlock it the door would pop open. If anyone has any info on this please let me know!!! Thanx alot guys, and gals!!!

In theory its definitely possible. What you need to do is, make a new lock rod going from your key lock to your lock assembly. Hook it up to part that your door handle was originally hooked up to & Install a set of door poppers. The problem that I see with this idea is your key breaking off in the lock. I don't think it will provide enough "pull" to release the lock assembly from the striker.

or use the keyhole as an electric switch when turned it supplies voltage to the soleniod thus opening the door.

Ok, my door fillers are on there way, thanks to Matt at Grant Kustoms on that. Ok, down to business. Can anyone give me a detailed idea of how to move the rod and what all if anything I will need to purchase? Pictures are always helpful. At this point in time I can not afford the actual shaved door kit, but that will come in time.

have you actually taken your door panel off and looked inside your door? its not too complicated, just look at it and see what pulls where when the latch is operated...

and make sure and do this before you shave the door because it is always helpfull to see how it originally worked to get an idea of how to make it work now.

While installing my solenoids for my kit (old kit) I noted that there are 2 return springs on the factory latch. With no door handle, the "extra" spring on the outside of the latch can be remove. This helped considerably with my solenoids. Would also make it significantly easier to use the keylock to activate the door latch. As speedster stated above, it is a pretty simple setup. wouldn't hurt to pull a door panel and take a good look at things.


pic shows rod pulling down on latch. Your install will have the rod pointed up and connected to the arm of the keylock. Turn the key to push the rod down and door opens.

but do you have to buy any solenoids or poppers or anything else like that? Like I said I'm a little ignorant on the whole mini-truck scene.
