instead of the hard labour sanding all my paint off i was thinking of using a sandblaster. im going to be painting well atleast starting the body work in about 2weeks so right now im just looking for an opinion if someone has done this.

ive never used a sandblaster but ive used aircraft paint stripper before. you just brush it on and let it sit. then you scrape it off with a putty knife. it comes off real easy especially if the paint is really old.

if you sandblast it and dont seal the metal its gonna rust i got a bed that was blasted and the guy let it sit outside for 6 months with nothing over it and it was rusted up pretty good. so my suggestion would be to just sand the paint off as you go

Id use aircraft stripper. Would take alot less time than sandblasting. Just brush it on and watch it work.

i totally forgot about aircraft stripper it works real good and its fast

uhhh, you wanna use 320 grit paper on a DA sander. sand out all the scratches and chips. taking it all the way to metal is pretty unnesasary. i work in a body shop and thats what we do to prep panels. even for color changes. just my 2 cents

Just depends on the current paint on the truck. If the paint is in good shape and you just wont to change colors then do what BURNOUTBOY said. If the paint is all messed up and stuff then just get 80 girt and a da will make fast work of the paint. I don't like to use paint stripper on cars or trucks cause if you don't get it all off it can ruin the paint on top. As for sandblasting that would work but be care full cause it can and will warp the metal making more work than need if your not care full.

mmmm i love aircraft stripper fumes just kidding but on the true hand it works great...

Blasting can screw up the metal pretty badly if you use the wrong media. Plastic or soda is best on big flat panels so it doesn't warp them.

i think im just going to stick with a sander because getting sand will start to get expensive.
