hey thanks for that link i really like how it turned out. What i was thinking with the spray paint was to put alot of clear over top to get the gloss. Do you think its possible to get gloss out of a spray bomb paint job. I don't think i would do so good with the roller though because ive tried that in my house when we were painting rooms and i could never get it all even and ive had lots of practice with spray paint.

I figure if you go through the same process just with spray cans and take no short cuts then yea, you probably could pull it off.

i think ill do that and roll with it for a year or two then get an actually paint job.

If this is a truck you plan on keeping for awhile and want it to look nice, I wouldn't advise doing either of those paint ideas. All the rattle can paint would have to be removed if you planned on repainting with urethane. Any rattle can is a laquer based paint. You can't paint urethane paint over top of laquer paint. The majority of paints today are urethane.
You need to find out what type of paint it is. If its 87 or new, it is most likely urethane. 86 & older being laquer. If it is laquer I would advise to strip it with airplane stripper(sandblasting tends to cause warping of the body), then DA it with 80, followed with 180, then epoxy primer. If it is urethane base, block it with 180 or 220, then finish it with 320 & prime it. The cheapest and easiest way to get a flat black paint job is with black epoxy primer. You can get a set up at a paint store for around $80. That is what I would reccomend, for a few reasons. Epoxy seals up bare metal, you can do body work over top of expoxy. You can also put a urethane based filler primer over top of it. Hope this was some help to you.

im made uo my mind and if i run into money problem i will at least get it in primer, so that means i will be doing it the proper way with a paint guna and everything. whats the type of primer i need to get if i keep it in primer cuz i know you get a different type if it stays in primer for a while.

I would recomend epoxy primer. You can get it in flat black & gray. You can paint over urethane & laquer base with it. You can also use most primers over top of it.

ya thats the one. im going to stick with the gray. ill try and get updates since i start next week end(the body work that is)

This is a $120 rattle can job. Have fun dude!

I sanded the whole truck with 320 and then used a 2k urethane primer. Drove it like a year in primer and then spraybombed it with about 10 cans of paint and clearcoat.

The truck has sat outside all winter and the paint still looks as good as the day I sprayed it. I used Duplicolor Engine Enamel.

ya i must say the truck and the paint has held up good especially for the fact it was parked at the side of the road for most of the winter and getting sprayed on from the plows going by.
