1000w Amps cutting out on me....HELP!!

ok ive got a 15'" mtx 1000watt road thunder sub and mtx box in my daily (90 corolla) and i just got a new amp for it recently. since i got the new amp that is rated at 1000watts (two channel boss BL1000 blade amp) it seems to not keep a solid ground. its mono bridged and it will bump for a little bit but then it just cuts out and wont work until i relocate the ground wire and then it works for abit again and then it kicks out again. i have only the sub running off the amp and my speakers are all stock. it also has thermal and speaker short protection.

should i be grounding the amp up in my engine bay to keep it from cutting out?? ive got 4g weld wire with gold connections for the whole negative side of the batt under the hood (big 3 upgrade or what ever they call it). my trunk ground wire is ....i think 8g

im lost at what to do with it lately and my b2200 isnt running or on the road till next spring to throw it in there. Any help to get it bumping again would be greatly appreciated. thanks

is the 15 a single or dual voice coil and what ohms is it? im gonna make a logical guess and say that the amp only runs 4ohm mono bridged like any other 2 channel would do. if you have 4ga going into your amp, then you need a 4ga ground. i dont think its a grounding issue though. when you move the ground, you are reseting the amp and thats why its coming back on. my guess is that it is a ohm load issue, or a blown sub.

hmmmmmmmmmmm before i put this amp in, the old one blew or something and caused the sub to make a high pitch squeeling sound. so i figured the amp was toast. the sub has never had more then 425 watts hooked up to it before this amp.

ill try and figure out the ohms on the sub, its kinda old but still seems mint, the sub has little movement if you slightly push down on it to make it pump (ive never pushed hard but you can tell its sturdy)

its a 4ohm dual voice coil, rated at 500watts and max is 100 watts.......hmmm

correction max = 1000w not 100w hahaha

ok so the sub is a dual 4ohm. you got the sub run in series or parrellel? if you got the sub running in parrellel then it is techically a 2ohm sub which is lower than the amp will push bridged(4ohm mono) so the amp is going into protection. then when you move the ground, you are reseting the amp.

First off, Never "bridge" a mono block amp, Mono block means its internally bridged, Unbridge it, And you Hz your set at shouldnt be above 80Hz if it is, Lower it, It isnt good for the sub. Secondly, Rule of thumb is to always have the same if not larger ground wire for an amp. lemme know, my cell is 530-366-1808 if you need to call

its a 2 channel amp not a mono. and you can bridge a mono amp. a mono only has 1 channel but you can bridge it at the speakers. how you think youre supposed to get the ohm load down on it?

Lol, No, there are 2 channel mono block amps, the "block" is the output. Mono amps are not "bridgeable" well you can but I wouldnt do it, ever. if it isnt a mono block amp, and he is just bridging it mono, then how long does it play before going into protection? also some amps are lame and need a capacitor, just so you know. Typically it would blow the fuse if wired without it so if it doesnt do that then you should be good on that end, lemme know how long it plays beforeshutting off

i would say it plays for about 2 to 3 mins before cutting off. the wiring diagram that came with the amp said that bridging was the best option for my set up.


mikey i think your on the right track dude, what you said is exactly whats going on or seems to be. it kicks out and then goes into protection mode.
what do you mean by series or parallel when running the sub??? ive got an idea but wanna be sure. im pretty sure its run parallel out of the amp. its two wires out the amp left speaker to positive terminal on sub and right speaker to negative on sub. ive got it hooked up like my amp booklet says for my sub.

p.s. thanks for helping me, without the Bscene id be lost or dumping money into some dumba$s at future shop or best buy and i no likes that idea.
