yeah i know this has been beaten to death but i want to go to a shorter, narrower shifter, basicly i want the width of the top atleast most of the way down, so does anyone have a picture of their shifter out of the transmission, and what all is needed to take it out. I want to see how hard it would be to fab a new one.

you can pull the boot off and there is three bolts that hold the shifter in, i thank there like a 10mm or 12mm bolt take them out and the shifter just comes out, be careful make sure you dont get anything in the trans as its open now

what does it look like after it goes into the tranny though, i've never taken one out of these. Just wondering how complex they would be to make

There's a ball on the end that sits into the linkage. Your only way to do what you want is to cut the shifter shorter and build a newer one from there. I wouldn't disturb what goes in the tranny

Do u know anywhere I can get a longer shifter. LIke a rat rod shifter for my mazda.

I made my tall shifter. Bought some round tubing that the shifter would slide into. Had it bent then welded it to the shifter below where the boot covers. Then tapped the other side and put some threaded rod in it and screwed my beer tap to it.

Cool. I just love the look of a long shifter. I got a price of 150 for a mchine shop to make one for me. But I think i'll just try and make one myself
