You can also use a mig spool gun in aluminum. They work great.

I'm still making progress! Jus not cutting any corners or rushing. Gotta make a jig for both cross members, then I can get the whole back half tacked together. Really looking forward to seeing it as one piece. Def like this frame 100x more than the last one. The old frame was so boring! Haha

Update:

I bought a house about 30 minutes south from where I used to live. Been very busy between that and work. I'm still working on the truck when I can. Got a 220v outlet wired up in the garage this weekend so I got a bunch done the past 2 days. A lot of things I've kinda been dreading doing. But they are done!

I got the axle finished, the ends are welded and smoothed, it ended up being 50 3/8" wide. So I think it's narrowed 5 1/8", I can't fully remember the "before" width . I got the frame completely tacked, perfectly square, everything level with each other, I'm very happy with it. The frame is mostly welded and ground down, jus a few more does need to be welded up. It'll be finished in another day of work. I have some cutting to do on the stock frame before I weld the new backhalf in. I want every bit of the old backhalf gone and I don't want to be able to see the stock frame when looking through the bed.

I'm getting the tabs for the 3 link and the fish plates to brace the frame all laser cut so they are perfect.

Here's a few pics of some progress

Thanks guys!!!

I got the axle finished, sand blasted, parts washed and rattle can primed for now. I still have to weld mounts on for the shocks and canti arms, so I'll use nicer primer when its actually 100% finished. Im very pleased with how it turned out. All new seals, shaft bearings and studs.Filled with some cheap 90w gear oil, gonna run it a while then change it out, just in case i missed any dust/debris.

I havent gotten to do much more to the frame yet. It'll be a few weeks till I can. Work is about to be very busy for couple weeks. Maybe make enough $$$ to buy some more parts

Thanks Dan!

So I'm doing the disc conversion on this axle. I almost bought the kit from The Little Shop but I kept looking at it knowing I could piece it together myself cheaper, so I finally found a thread giving the part numbers for the swap. I'm gonna post the numbers in here cuz I hate reading a thread and someone talking about a swap and never giving numbers, haha.

So I got the brackets to mount the calipers on eBay, they say they are for a 4wd but the axle flanges are the same so they will work on 2wd as well. I jus searched Toyota rear axle disc conversion.... $76

I got the rotors on eBay as well, they are for an 85 Ford Mustang SVO. $75

The calipers are for a 79 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, I got mine from AutoZone, part numbers C160 and C161. Already painted silver. $60

The pads are also for the Monte Carlo, part number MKD154 from AutoZone.$20

I will be buying stainless flex hoses later on down the road from jegs. $45

The swap will cost me around $275 as opposed to $390 + shipping from Little Shop. I understand they gotta make money too, but I gotta save money where I can! Parts should be here this week.

do you have a link to the disc swap thread?

It's for the Toyota axle, just in case you didn't know.
