my boys 96 trans am

well, we got it to the house yesterday and got started on it tonight. he has done a ton of work to it already but now he needs some fabrication that is beyond his skills. so he brought it to my chop shop. haha.

and to give you a quick lowdown on the car. we took it to the track a couple months back and it was running low 13s with a jacked up tranny in the 1/4 mile. it is an automatic and it kept red lining in 3rd i think. so he bought a new tranny that is going to be killer and got a new shifter that is freakin badass!


tonight we made the new mount for the new shifter. it sits higher than the stock shifter so i just had to make a new bracket. pretty easy. just had to keep cutting on the center console and fit checking. took a little while but it turned out very nice and he is extremely happy with it. i am taking the mount to work tomorrow to install some nut plates and then we will be welding it in tomorrow night and then moving on to the trunk.

looks good my buddy had a 97 formula with a clutch gear pullys full exhaust and a 175 shot and was running 12.4 spraying the whole way though.

There's guys out here in the 11s thats only got basic intake, exhaust mods that spray the whole way. Close friend, head of Extreme Disturbance, ran an 12.15 with his 100% stock, with removed catback, and intake box. 6 months, 3 transmissions, 3 cams, 4 heads, 3 fuel pumps, and 2 rear ends later..he broke into the 10s without spraying it.

yes but they have the ls1 or lt1, i can't remember which. he had to toss his and is running a 350 with a ton of work that he has done to it. i want to say that he dropped a valve and destroyed one of his cylinders, or something like that. they are extremely quick stock. he is talking about buying some other engine but i don't kow what or anything.

hell, i told him last night that he sure picked a hell of a car to build a racecar out of. these damn things are compact as hell to work on.

here are a few updates...we pulled the engine and installed a new oilpan because the other one was leaking everywhere. i got a nice big hole in the trunk floor to install the new fuel pump for the nitrous upgrade. woot woot. and i got the mount welded in for the shifter and all the interior back in. here is the only pick i have right now. i may take some more tonight.

got some more work done, and got it cranked up the other day. sounds bitchin but it doesn't have the exhaust hooked up either. haha. i had to modify the tranny crossmember to mount the turbo 350 tranny. and i found out the other day that it is an lt1 block, but the heads got trashed. didn't ask what heads he has on it now. here are some pics of the tranny crossmember for the pic whores. haha. i will get a video of cranking it up and stuff on monday. the starter quit working so he has to go get a new one. always something.

and i welded everything up on both sides before we mounted it but forgot to take pics until it was already mounted...
