Awesome progress Chuck!!! Truck is looking great!! I'd really like to have a pair of those taillights on your truck for my daily Mazda, they are slick.

I didn't make much progress from the other day. I now have to move the wastegate cause it hits the steering shaft. And I have decided to ditch the Mercedes tranny and do a 700r4 tranny. There is a company that makes the adaptors to mate that tranny to the Mercedes diesel but they want $725 for it. I'm thinking I can get with my buddy at the machine shop and make it for less. We'll see, so now I need to find a tranny and some extra cash from the wife.......LOL Wish me luck!!!!!

good luck buddy! sucks about it hitting the steering.you cant do a rack and pinion steering setup and make it work? and whats the 700r4 out of? sounds familar...

Nan don't want to go rack and pinion after the money I spent on the rhd steering gearbox....LOL. And a 700r4 is a popular chevy auto tranny.

Make sure that you go for a newer 700r4 trannie. I don't exactly remember what, but some of the earlier ones had some sort of design flaw in them that caused the clutch packs to burn up quicker. You'd probably also want one that was for a Caprice as they were long and heavier cars. I wish I knew more about the bowtie trannies aside from how to remove em in 15 minutes.

You want a 700r4 from a 91 or newer. They have better pumps, and used more discs in the clutch packs. Look for one from a v8 car/truck. Also when you get it installed make sure you have the TV cable adjusted pretty good before you drive it or you can smoke 3rd and 4th gears really quick.

HAHA. Nope been working around the house the last month and a half. Hoping to get cracking on it here soon. Trying to make it to Layd out at the Park show in TN.
