here is another 5.0 or 302 questions post .

You can use the early 351w heads from 69-74, but from then on they are the same as the 302/5.0. That used to be the "trick" thing back in the day, even 351c heads will work {bogus Boss 302 anyone} with some machining.

Today, there are so many affordable, aftermarket, aluminum heads that I will probably never touch a stock head again.

There are some guys who are running the stock rear it think up to 300 hp, but they are changing the chunk to one from an early RX7 lsd unit.

I had to go with a Ford 9 for obvious reasons, but if the engine was a tad tamer I would go with the stocker/rx7 chunk until it blew.

You will have to massage the firewall a bit on the drivers side with a big hammer, or cut and weld, to get the engine to clear. Also the radiator is gonna be tight fit. I cut my radiator support back so now there is plenty of room.

I'm running a new TKO 600 Tremec trans so I can't really say how an AOD, or 4R70W would work, but it shouldn't be too bad. You can make the speedometer cable work if you find the end that goes into the tranny from a 70- 80's Ford car or truck without cruise control.

Also, unless your a Ford guy like me, and have a few old driveshafts laying around, you might have to have a custom made. I wish I could tell you what the driveshaft I used was from, but I don't remember {I think it was from a 1980 crown vic state trooper car that had a 351w}, but Hell it fit just perfect.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

that is helpful though!what were the measurements to go by for the engine mounts ?

Any 84-93 Mustang with a 5.0 will work for the motor mounts.

You might have to re-drill the holes, on the frame to set the engine back as far as you want it.

Also, you will need a rear sump oil pan. I can tell you that if your going exotic as in a $$ Canton it will fit if you get the road race pan, but you will have to mod the frame cross member, just as you would with a factory 5.0 {which came with a rear sump pan on late model Mustangs}.

I am using early model Mustang {65-66} long tube headers, and they work perfectly. Might be because the 65-66 Mustangs had a very limited space for headers.

I am running two 62mm Garrett T4 turbo's just behind the bed. So I can't comment on the rest of the exhaust, but I did buy a fuel cell, which was relatively cheap at around $160 with sending unit.

I installed the cell behind the watts link on the rear of the truck, if that helps any.

Do you know if a world class T-5 manual tranny would work well with this swap? The older fox body mustangs came with T-5's...
