Wow, thanks for the information that would have been useful. Unfortunately I ended up trading the truck for a '79 F150 4x4.. Ended up with a 5.0 in that, lol.

Sorry for the late reply! I am in the middle of my 302 swap right now.

The chevy swap is more difficult because the distributor is at the rear of the engine and you would need to modify your firewall. Also need custom motor mounts, etc.

My 302 came from a 96' F150. It was EFI but I converted it to carb by getting a new intake manifold and vacuum advanced distributor.
Here's my build thread:

I am using a T5 manual transmission from a fox body stang. I am also using the 87-93 mustang motor mounts.

The oil pan on the F150 is rear sump, but it is 1.5" taller than the mustang one. I am not sure if it is going to hang below the frame or not... I sure hope not because I am bagged and want to lay frame. I am planning on test fitting the engine and transmission in this weekend. I'll update more when I do.

this is not true...i even had the BIG hei setup and didnt have to do anything.

and the motor mounts were very easy actually. Not that it would be easier than a 302...i dont know. Just saying that you wouldnt have to do anything to the firewall.

well every chevy motor ive scene needed clearenced around the distrubuter so im not how yours is set up... chevys are cheaper for parts.. so that would be a factor if i was doing it... stay carbed if possible... becomes basically a 4 wire hook up wether u go with a ford or chevy.... the same principles will apply... u just need get a motor and dive in.... yes motor mounts will be needed for either i assume... yes u will need to mod your tranny crossmember at some point... im sure u will require block hugger headers to clear ur sreering shaft.... i dont really know what else we can say... other then take pics and when u run into a problem we can walk u through how to fix it.... make sense?

Now you have seen a chevy motor with out cutting the firewall, i clipped a small piece of the lip cause i got fat fingers. and you are not required to use block hugger headers to clear the steering.

not a bad job!

stick with efi though the easiest thing to do is to get the whole wiring harness out of the donor vehicle including the interior wires. the hardest part is sitting down and figuring out exactly what wires you will need to keep. other that that efi swaps are easy. i just put a 3.0 v6 and automatic in b22
