My "View Active Threads" doesn't seem to be working. I just braved the cold to check this out for you. OK, I'm in Arizona, and the garage was still like 70 F.

This is just a noise resistor. The wire simply goes to the coil positive terminal. If the coil hasn't been monkeyed with, that's the terminal farthest from the driver fender. On mine, I just dug out some of the housing so I could solder a wire on.

I may be mistaken, but I know on other carb vehicles I have had the coil is actually 6v and this resistor pulls the voltage down to 6v and allows it to operate correctly. Without it you can cause the coil to operate incorrectly and even burn out. This may be totally wrong in this instance but just throwing it out there.

Your mistaken.......this is a radio noise suppressor only in this instance. Most of them have the wire broken off right at the suppressor and the engine runs fine without it........if the stock radio is no longer in it, you probably don't even need it anymore.

I just realized that was your first post ncjewcrew! Welcome to the forums! You can learn a lot on here about the Mazda trucks......enjoy!

That is a .47 uf capacitor (250 V?) . Helps reduce radio static (I believe is the main purpose). If yours is broken, get one at Radio Shack. Doesn't have to look the same but you need to observe the proper polarity (- to ground).

Ordered a new Capacitor/condenser. I was told by many (& have seen this on a few forums) that the little black box that goes to the + side of the coil was to prevent radio noise. It is in fact an ignition condenser. It is in the wiring schematic in the Haynes manual. I have heard many of you say your truck runs fine without this connected. But I have heard a few say that they have sluggish power & misfires with out it. My plug wires say "Radio Suppression" too...Does that mean they are there to keep my radio reception clear? I don't think so. I do however appreciate all of the tips & advice. You all have helped me go from a non-running truck to a yard driver. Dying to get it on the road, but at least I can move it in the yard.
