First replace the fuel filter. If yours is manual transmission, then the filter is hidden under the air cleaner, passenger side, near the firewall. Have you actually measured the fuel delivery? I assume that since you're in Phoenix that you have passed emission testing, so your catalytic converters are likely not clogged if you passed that.

Since you're in Phoenix we should be able to rule out rust in the fuel tank/fuel lines, as mine was pristine when I looked i and took a photo last year while replacing the fuel sending unit.

Are your spark plugs OK? If you run the engine at night, can you see any sparks jumping to ground in the dark?

A compression test would also provide good information.

What size tires you running! ! What rpm at 60 n 65?

I can go 85mph on I-17 straightaways, not a problem. Approaching Sunset Point from the South I drop down to 65mph.

these trucks run about 3000 rpms around 70 mph it seems hard on them but theyre set that way for a reason. i kinda thought it was too much for mine too but unless u actually have issues itll do 100 or better on the highway. try cleanin out that egr n clean them plugs. that made the world of a diffrence with both my trucks. mainly the egr.
alota the time with these trucks its just cleanin or adjusting somthing to keep it runnin tip top. good luck

ok so the prev owner cut out the cat and put pos muffler on it sounds s**T so today i cut out everything from the header back and welded in a new cat and stock muffler i also took the egr off and had to chip out two lumps of coal out of it the upper part with the valve in it was completely full of carbon and had to be chipped out for the valve to operate when i was putting it back together i looked in the vac line and it looks like there is a steel ball bearing in the line i dont know why they did it but its there should i just cut it out and put it back together or is there any reason to have a bearing the to block it off

Sounds like someone put a steel ball bearing in the vacuum line to block it, and also not be seen by our "sharp-eyed" Arizona emissions inspectors.

Should i just pop it out and put it back together? I've never had carb vehicle what does the egr do and how does it effect emissions?
